i was diagnosed with bipolar when I was 25. I was on seroquel for a long time and a lot of it. 50 mg in the afternoon and 800mg at bedtime. Within about 6 months I went from 130lbs to 260lbs. I was also not working any longer so I wasn't active and I was eating like a mad woman. Now 8 years later I've been off of seroquel for 3 1/2 years and drastically changed my eating habits. I fluctuate though. For some time it comes off very rapidly. Right away I lost 30lbs. Then a year after that 15lbs. Then I stayed there not moving and all of a sudden within the last 6 months I lost 36lbs. I was also more active in caring for my grandmother. Now just within 2 weeks I gained 12 lbs. See I was off my meds and then started them up about 2 weeks ago. I'm on depakote which makes me gain, but I'm also on so many meds and not just for bipolar, but also health issues. I hardly eat because I have no appetite and all I drink is water. I'm still not working, I'm on disability. The last time my thyroid was checked the first result was abnormal, but the second test I was literally just at the normal range. I'm always having my thyroid checked. My doctor just ordered another thyroid test and other blood work. If my thyroid is hyper active I've already decided I'm not taking the meds. I don't think that'd be the case, but you never know. Plus I can't really exercise. I've already had 3 major back surgeries and I'm looking at a 4th. I welcome all members to this group no matter what medications your on and for what reasons. No one here is to judge or be judged. Please post whatever you want however you're feeling. I hope that we can help and encourage each other here! Good luck on your journey!
