Hi,

Off late I have trouble getting sleep at night. This is happening from the time I started Bulking a few weeks ago. I had been cutting cals for over a year & currently I'm having a couple of hundred cals above my TDEE. I get sound sleep on the days I workout. But on Non workout days I find it very difficult to get sleep, usually end up sleeping for just 4-5 hours. :(

Could someone shed light if this is due to upping my cals or something else?!

Thanks

I've experienced this when making rapid changes to calorie intake but I couldn't explain mechanisms or whether or not it's an actual common thing.

Out of curiosity did you go from deficit to surplus in 1 shot or did you take a maintenance break in between?

No, I was at maintenance for about 2 weeks & then slowly increased my intake by about 100 cals/week.
    Thanks.

    Interesting.

Total speculation on my part but I would look at other lifestyle factors to attribute the poor quality sleep to.

I actually struggled with this a little too. I think the surplus of calories just gave me more energy than normal, I started going to bed much later than normal (like 3AM) on days I wasn't working out.

My extremely non-medical solution was a beer or two before bed on days I didn't work out. Also helped add a few more calories to my diet. Win/win!

    *shrug*

Seen this, and the waking up hotter than normal, sometimes sweating. Usually on night when it must be leg day repairing. Don't get it or as bad when session was upper body.

Also follows a big endurance cardio ride or run, as opposed to quick ride or run. The next day as recovery is hard to sleep. Depending on when workout was done, the repair night has me waking up.

Couple shots method helps too - sometimes.

Yup. I have woken up plenty of times completely drenched after squat day. Only while bulking though (maybe because I do more volume when bulking?).

I have struggled with sleep issues since I was a child. Maybe you are not active enough on non workout days to feel tired. But I'm probably the last person who should give advice on sleep.
