Maaaaannn! I thought I was doing great, then I read DittoDan's blog (fabulous read if you haven't mosied on over there yet) and he was talking (briefly) about Bullet Proof Coffee.
He said he doesn't drink coffee so he posted a definition he found on the web.
So... his definition said that it is not just coffee with fat (butter, coconut oil, MCT oil, HWC etc) but that it is an actual sort of organic yadda yadda coffee called Bullet Proof Coffee.
Is this really what everyone is refferring to? Everyone buys this Bullet Proof Coffee online and then adds their fats?
Or are most people just using regular coffee (or tea) I guess and adding fat?
Do I really need to research and buy this bullet proof brand named coffee? I'm suspecting not as I've seen quite a few people referring to their Bullet Proof Tea.
Anyway.... just wondering. Likely over reacting.
Thanks in advance.

I don't drink it myself (hate coffee and dropped all caffeine so stopped even drinking green tea), but I am certain for most people its this. The guy with the "IT HAS TO BE ORGANIC" site that started the craze seems like a nutjob to me, personally. Or a salesman I guess, but I'm in IT, so salesman and nutjob are synonymous to me frequently

No, it does not have to be a special organic coffee. That's just the guy who invented it trying to make a buck.0
-
I like coffee but haven't tried this. It's black coffee with all the fats added. Also, it's a great way to get extra fats into your diet if that's a problem.
I like my coffee with a huge dollop of heavy cream mixed into it. It makes it smooth and creamy.0 -
BPC is rarely the organic fancy stuff that guy sells. Its just coffee with fat added, most of us aren't rich and don't feel like going broke.0

LOL @ Radiii True.
@gsp90X I also think it is a scam to get you to buy HIS coffee. It might be special. More so I think it is the caffeine butter and MCT or coconut oil. HWC is not really part of the REAL Bullet proof coffee but many add it with or use it instead of butter. There are many variations.0 -
I drink supermarket instant coffee. I have heavy cream in my first 1 or 2 cups each day as 'breakfast' and then have coconut milk (no carbs, where cream does) in the other 4 or 5 cups for the day.0
-
I am doing the full monte.... 1 TBS coconut oil, 1 TBS Kerrygold butter, 1 TBS HWC, then froth with a stick blender. 10 oz. Kirkland brewed coffee... This kills my hunger signals for up to 12 hours.0
-
I just use my regular dark expression roast. It's delicious but it tears up my stomach all day. Anyone else experience negative side effects. I just use 2 those coconut oil, a dash of cinnamon, vanilla, and splenda.0

I hate coffee but would love to have something that kills hunger for 12 hours. Do you think there is another drink you could do this with? I was thinking hot choc, but obvs that has carbs...0

THANK YOU everyone! This is kinda what I figured. I didn't think all of you seemingly well adjusted people were ALL drinking this expensive coffee!! What a relief. I would have had to have (does that make sense?) opted out of that club!totaloblivia wrote: »I hate coffee but would love to have something that kills hunger for 12 hours. Mine only holds me 2 to 3 hours, 4 at max but buys me time 'cause I hate eating breakfast.
You could do home made hot chocolate. But as some LCHF variations, it won't be like that prepackaged stuff.
I make hot water, add cocoa powder then basically your fats. Same thing. Or maybe a drop of stevia if you want it sweeter. I find the coconut oil sweetens it all some how.
You'd likely still need a magic bullet, milk frother or really strong arm to blend it all up well like we do with the BPC(T). Yes, the cocoa powder has carbs, but depending on your daily carbs I don't find it too bad. Unless you're wanting to be like @Granny May and drink 5 or so cups a day. I usually stick to 1 for breakfast (caffeine thing for me). Would that I could drink more
I also make a version with cocoa powder & chocolate protein powder (99%). You have to add the protein powder slowly and stirr/shake/blend like the dickens so it doesn't "cook" and go lumpy. YuK
Again, Thanks everyone!

I generally buy generic coffee. This last time I splurged and bought Maxwell house. I did try bullet proof vanilla chai tea and it was good but caffeine and I don't always get along.0
-
I only have about 1/4 of a teaspoon of coffee in each mug full. I probably should have clarified that0

Sounds like I might give this a go one evening if I have a few carbs and need to add fat. Thanks!

Nothing's going to kill hunger for 12 hours unless part of it is spent asleep.

Tears up how? If it's bathroom issues, try using less coconut or MCT oil.
If it's acid-related, cold-brew and AeroPress both turn out pretty low-acid stiff.

I use expensive coffee, but not Dave Asprey's. Currently, I have Kicking Horse's Kick *kitten* (that's going to get ***ed out) coffee. Nomnomnom. My husband, Philistine that he is, would greatly prefer Folgers, but life is too short for me to drink crappy coffee, and he doesn't drink it very often.
My coffee: http://smile.amazon.com/Kicking-Horse-Coffee-Whole-2-2-Pound/dp/B0027Z8VES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426943718&sr=8-10 -
We love that Kick *kitten* coffee too ! I'm not afraid to say it. If I'm going to have coffee, it's mostly going to be organic, fair trade coffee beans that we grind fresh daily. We get most of our coffee in big 5 lb bags from our farmers who have a coffee connection, and their coffee is half the price of the Kicking Horse kind. That way we don't compromise quality when trying to save money.
We also like hot chocolate made with coconut milk at my house. I must try adding some cocoa powder to my BPC....hhmmm.
My daughter also likes to add vanilla protein powder to her BPC, but I haven't tried that yet. I think as long as you get the fat in there, you could use whatever type of coffee and add-in's you like.0 -

Not exactly: the fat-only ingredients of the original BPC recipe are meant to avoid creating an insulin response, thus preserving some of the metabolic benefits of the morning fasted state. The caffeine and fat also help suppress appetite. Adding ingredients that contain protein or carbs would make it no different than any other meal.

Right, that's the whole point of bullet proof coffee. You get some fat in for satiety, but have no insulin response whatsoever. Adding protein powder or cocoa powder makes it simply coffee with stuff added to it. It is no longer BPC.

I use Dunkin Donuts flavored coffee because I still dont love coffee flavor itself. Then add my HWC, coconut milk, coconut oil and butter.0

I'm not sure what does it. I'm a caffeine junkie so I don't think that's it. It doesn't cause"bathroom" issues but makes me nauseous.0 -

Awwwww Gsp you got them going again! On LCD & Keto, all you have to do is say, "BPC" and they come out of the woodwork! (tongue-in-cheek)
Here is my definition of BPC (that you read):
.Bullet Proof Coffee = I am not a coffee drinker, but,
when you Google it, the best I can tell is it is organically
grown "mold free" coffee beans with Unsalted Grass Fed
Butter and some kind of oil called MCT. MCT = Medium-Chain
Triglycerides are medium chain fatty acids which are extracted
from coconut oil. And it has Lauric acid in it (whatever that is)?
Apparently this coffee tastes really good and gives you Superman
powers (hence "bullet proof"), you never want to eat again, you
can leap tall buildings in a single bound and you go into Ketosis
in a few minutes ~ then burning all the remaining fat in your body
in a week's time (at least this is the hype on the internet, remember
Gano?). For newbies: No, you do not have to take up coffee drinking
to implement the Keto diet.
I just thought of something that could further enhance your BPC, (notice that many said all the different variations of BPC) after reading this post:
Vinegar and Insulin Resistance
Maybe you could add a tablespoon of vinegar to your BPC?
