Meh. Keto and Gastroparesis?

I was diagnosed this week with this. I've been keto for 2 months. Anyone successful with staying on a keto WOE and having gastroparesis issues? I'm supposed to limit fats to 50%, but I just gain weight when I do that. Any help appreciated!

I had a long stomach emptying test done few years ago and was told I have a slow digestion, I think it's the same as gastroparesis? Anyway, I don't know about fats but what helps is to eat smaller portions more often. With this woe it might help and I also take digestive enzymes before meals. I also dropped raw veggies and only eat cooked ones which breaks them down for easier digestion also chewing your food longer. Look at the cows, they chew their food for hours lol

Hmmm. I have had gastric paresis for 4 years. I've never been told to limit my fats, never. In fact, I was put on this diet and some medication to resolve those issues as they were part of an underlying condition. What type of doc told you this? I found my Gastro to be totally useless as far as diet or anything else really. My cardiologist though, he is good. Maybe get a second or third or fourth opinion. What we have is rare, particularly among females, so you might be suffering as a guinea pig for your doc. Been there done that.

It was my gastro. I just got out of the hospital so it's still early on in my treatment. Slow digestion and gastroparesis is the same thing. Or rather it can be. I ate a small amount last night at dinner...and I still had a stomach ache and fullness until a bit ago. They didn't give me anything else to take, but like I said, it's still early and they wanted to see if the small meals would work. I have been cooking my veggies. Since I started this 2 months ago, because it really seemed to help my digestion. Raw ones just went through and came out the same as they went in! It's good to hear of other people having success, because since I started this, I feel better. Just this issue, which I didn't even realize was a problem until I had a gallstone in my bile duct. But it all makes sense. I kept mistaking the fullness for just gerd, and the nausea for hunger and kept feeding myself. Anyway, thanks! I'll keep that in mind about the mds. And thanks for the siggestions!

@gemberly I feel your pain. A few years ago my doctor prescribed to me a drug called "Victoza". The drug helps you lose weight and curbs your appetite. It was working, in about 3-4 months I had lost 20ish lbs. But then I started throwing up violently and having diarrhea at the same time. I could tell when an episode was coming, I would burp and it had a certain foul/rotting food smell to it. It was so awful. I would sleep than I would be just like nothing ever happened. I thought it was a stomach flu of some sort. But, then it started recurring every 7-10 days. So I went to my family doc. Then to my endocrinologist (he was the one that prescribed the med) No improvement, then to a specialist, he was looking at my gallbladder.

Fortunately, (and thank God) my best friend is a physician's assistant. He went straight to the med Victoza, and looked up the side effects. THERE IT WAS, said something about slowing the digestion down and maybe a problem for people with GastroP. The day I stopped taking the drug, I never got it again.

Does this help you? Probably not. But I will say that I never had any bouts since I started Keto (7 months ago).

If you just got out, I agree to take it easy. Protein shakes were one of the first things I could really consume. Muscle milk light is around 8 ounces, it was a nutritious small meal for me when nothing else would stay down.

Following. I've had issues off and on for years and i've noticed doing IF on keto has really made my stomach not want to function. Ate 10 hours ago and had to make a trip to the bathroom because my stomach was still full. I think I will go off IF to see if that helps.

With this condition you have to eat less but more often, chew your food 100 times lol. If I chug too much fat in one setting I'll be full all day with my tummy feeling it, so I try to spread out during the day.
