How does MFP confirm content of "Safeway Spicy Asian Chicken"..as example?

I see many foods from deli's etc as listed in MFP. But WHO determines if a cooked in grocery chicken, or roast beef, or some casserole made on site has "X" amount of anything, except basic calories?

would like to trust the stats are accurate BUT as the girl in store deli said "no flour etc is used.just spices" ..but the list of ingredients found on the cost label they print out does show very small amount of corn meal, flour, etc.

Not THAT worried over carbs and sugar on THIS dish as it is all meat. but what if the count is WAY off? who decides, the person listing the food? how is it screened or verified?

This will be of no help, but ....

I stay away from foods that I can't reasonably verify. Sorry.

I may be a bit too relaxed over this but with foods I can't possibly verify - like Caesar salads from cafes or restaurants, I just eyeball it and make my best assumption. I never have any clue whether that dressing is 3g per 100 sugar, or 33g per 100 sugar. I don't feel that we can ever record everything we eat accurately, and can only do our best each day. *To me* I would eat it and watch for a weight increase that otherwise wouldn't be expected. If that doesn't happen then that food would remain on my 'safe to eat' list.

Not saying that answer suits everyone's needs or preferences, only that it's my response.

If they have a star, it's a user's WAG. If they don't have a star, they are presumably getting the info directly from Costco. That said, the employees at stores don't make any of those salads, so they're no more likely to know the ingredients than the cashiers up front.

From an LC point of view, it's probably better to avoid the deli salads altogether. From an allergen point of view, I'd have a talk with the store manager, because if you had a gluten issue, that girl could've put you in the hospital if you hadn't read the label.

Kuranda stating the obvious isn't any help, I was asking for info.

So the STORE producing the food knows..as it is ON the paper label per law.

I see the star on the Safeway food I bought, so the member got it somewhere. if they guessed its a whole mother story.

I will try contacting their online site for comments ,I am now pretty positive those "coating spices" are coning in bagged to each Safeway. the entire boneless chicken and coating may come in frozen in bags..will ask at the store manager today to see.

And YES..if I was stupid enough to trust a basic employee who just shoves frozen chicken dusted in 'stuff's the cooker…then bad on me. but she may not do the cooking.

the funny thing was the label is ALWAYS on the bottom of the container..so turning it over is awkward and I didn't think to check it.

the amount of coating consumed on 4oz of chicken was prolly not even a 1/5 cup total.

The coating might not be the only place, too. A lot of commercially prepared poultry are injected to plump them up and/or add flavor, and there can be more sugar, flour, or similar used in the injection solution.
