Carb dreams??

This may sound crazy, but last night I had a dream that I was eating rice from a Thai food restaurant, and that's not the first time I've had a dream like that......the last time it was a baked potato. In the dreams I feel so guilty, and so relieved when I wake up and realize it was just a dream, and I'm still in ketosis. Am I the only one who has the carb dreams??

I had my worst (and only like 3rd ever) the other day about candy ... figure it was due to all the Easter adverts.

Ha ha, yeah, @totaloblivia I work across the street from a Dunkin Donuts factory. The fried dough some days as I'm leaving work... it used to set off a lot of carb binges.

Nope, and I hope not to have any, that would not be a dream, that would be a night terror!

I had these a lot when I first started this WOE. When I took myself out of ketosis last week I ended up having another one as soon as I was back in. They're nightmares but it's such an amazing feeling when you wake up and realize you can be proud of yourself for how you did. I still have occasional mornings where I wake thinking I'll regret whatever food choices I made the night before, then realize no guilt is necessary.

I haven't had any food dreams. But I made my wife dream that I kept bugging her to make pickled cucumber salad. Apparently it was my spiel about the wonders of vinegar.

Question about ketosis vs low carb - I'm adjusting to low-er carb (for now) (i.e. no bread, potatoes, rice, processed junk) - but what if you're absolutely craving something, such as brown rice or maybe some amazing fresh bread...would it not be better to go ahead and have a small piece and not feel deprived? Or does that totally defeat the ketosis thing and make you succumb to a total carb-frenzy breakdown?

I love white rice and can't stand brown one, yikes. I love white bread fresh from the oven, but I don't want to spoil my journey and get kicked out. I have a lot of willpower to avoid the temptations ☺️

If you don't have faith in yourself that you can avoid the temptation, yeah, you might as well have a small serving and make sure the rest of your day's menu makes room for it. But I think it's the carbs themselves that ruin our willpower. For me, a tiny portion of rice or buttered bread would definitely increase the risk that I'd binge later that day or the next... You gotta know yourself, and be honest with yourself.

Occasionally at a restaurant, I eat a tiny piece of bread, (like the size of a dime) or a french fry the size of my fingernail. (I know, I know ~ that's a bad thing!)

I sometimes equate eating carbs to sinning. Some sins are minor (white lies) and some are big (murder). I try to avoid the big sins. Eating too many carbs will "kill" my Ketogenic adaptation. But one or two tiny indiscretions won't.

    I hope this helps,

Some people are like this and it works for them to occasionally, intentionally knock themselves out of ketosis to avoid some other, worse/bingey/emotional response, or just because they want to. I think this group is the minority though.

For most people after an initial period of becoming keto-adapted, these cravings don't come around that strongly, that often. Once keto-adapted, getting knocked out of ketosis via too many carbs can cause a really crappy hangover like feeling that you remember the next time. For many of us with diabetes or insulin resistance, there is a physical response to eating carbs. Blood sugar changes, and what was a small craving that could have been ignored is now a huge craving.

Some of this is mindset too. The word "deprived" implies an emotional attachment. There are so many keto friendly foods that I *love*, and a ton of them would be things I would crave and would feel deprived that I was supposed to not eat them if I was on a different diet. But anyway, the general theme with my mindset is that I'm not punishing myself by eating a ketogenic diet. I love eating this way, so many great foods. If I love the way I'm eating and don't view it as a punishment for being fat, I tend to view my choice to not eat the carby thing in a much more relaxed way than as a deprivation. I find this really does make a difference.

I had one dream the first week about being in a literal tidal wave of sugar cookies, and just stuffing my face with them. It was more funny than terrifying. But then again I occasionally have a dream about smoking a cigarette which boggles my mind and totally wrecks my night because I need a double lung transplant. So those freak me out. The food one was funny though.

I had some intense carb-mares last night. A huge chocolate brownie, 2 chocolate lattes, seasoned fries and ketchup, and I bought 3 candy bars (and spent $10 bucks on them) and I woke up before I got to eat the chocolate! NO FAIR! I can't even dream binge...

LOL. I haven't had a carb dream in the last month. In fact I've had several dreams where friends and coworkers ask me to help them get started going Keto.. ;)

I dreamed that I went to Costco, and they kept offering me tempting carb-laden samples. Wait, that really happened. I could not resist a sample of grilled cheese sandwich made with garlic butter. Damn! That almost got me to go back to the Carb Side.

I dreamt I ate a whole bag of little easter eggs last night. I was so annoyed with myself. It was a relief when I woke up. I have a bit of a carb phobia now that I've got back into Keto. I let myself relax at Xmas and it took 3 months to stop binging. Now I worry about the 3 kernels of corn that were in my coleslaw last night.
