Ok Goat, this is for you.

I am just off 8 days of GI flu. I was lucky to get a couple hard boiled eggs into me on any given day only to find them in exodus shortly after.

Figuring that I surely lost 20 lbs during the tempest, I had the courage to get on the scale. 5 lbs down, 194, from my starting weight, yes 199lbs which means, I hadn't lost anything in the 10 weeks leading up to the flu.
Nada, zip, zilch. Nothing. Maybe in fact, I even gained and stomach flu took that little secret with it.

I am undaunted and in fact , pissed. Oh. Plenty pissed. Tired of things not working; computers, printers, dvd's and DIETS.

Now that I have eliminated an entire food group: wine, I am starting clean slate. No wine all last week pre flu. This week am doing fine. Instead, I am learning abut fine and elegant flavored seltzer water.

But I can't get past 1250 calories. Got a lot more fat than my carb and proteins added up to, but
the sudden fat panic button hit.
What if I die from so much fat? Clogged artillery .

I decided I will not look back. Embrace fat, call it my friend , even go to bed with it, wake up and keep it close during the day. Trade one fat for another perhaps. Or, so I am told.

We'll see. I am now a petri dish.

Whoa! You are a whole *kitten* storm of emotions my dear and rightly so. I hope that anger moves you to motivation (which is sounds like it has) I felt like that about 3 weeks ago.

The non-wine version of your diet should make a difference. But I can totally relate to your frustration.

What's the other option though? Unhappy forever? Keep on. YOu'll figure out what works. Listen to your body and guinea pigging it all the way is a great idea! 'Cause when you finally hit on your own secret formula you are going to feel like more than a million bucks!

Please keep at it and post for us how you're doing and your "experiments" as that is often what is going to help and inspire others!!

Chant with me: Nothing is more fun than a little "n=1".

    ;)

You can do this. Also, weren't you hospitalized for dehydration from that sickness, or am I imagining that? If you were, and were on IV fluids, you'll be retaining a good amount of water weight. If that is a false memory, then it still will be ok.

You can up the fats. You will be fine. When the numbers start to look huge and scary, just think, "this amount is probably half the amount of fat that freak, Goat, ate today."

I am not saying drink butter just to drive the calories and fats up. I think you know me well enough for that. But, eat real foods with plenty of fat. And, don't stress too much about the calories. If 1,250 is all you can stomach right now. Eat that much. If, one day, you're really feeling like 1,800 or 2,000 calories. Eat that. Stress raises cortisol, which hinders weight loss. Try and find a calm and peaceful way to accept whatever amount you want to eat that day.

Good luck. You will do this. And, we're all here for you.

    {n=1 is a self-experiment, for those who don't know}

Edit: It was RATSMITH who was in the hospital... but you did reply in that thread. So, I am only half crazy.

( bowing my head) Thank you all. I can do it and am excited.
Calm . A four letter word not in my vocabulary.

My business is not about calm but I am working on it.

Stress raises cortisol which hinders weightloss which causes more stress which raises cortisol which hinders weightloss ...

This made me want to cry. A big part of my stress is the need to lose weight. I also have alot of other things going on, things like the fact that my partners 2 teenagers hate me, and have been making my life hell for about 12 months now. Not to mention the stress it puts on our relationship. Especially when he resents me for saying anything even remotely negative about either of them (like "maybe they could eat what is served rather than you running down the shop after dinner and buying them takeaway".)

So I'm going to be fat and miserable forever? :(

And he's right about the IV fluids. I had gotten down to 185 then didn't eat or drink anything for almost a week that didn't multiply and come right back out one way or another. 4 IV bags and two days of broth and bland scrambled eggs later and I'm up to 194..... Time, I've accepted it just takes time.

No. You won't be stuck forever. It hinders weight loss. It doesn't prohibit it. It also causes more water retention. So, some of the weight you're holding isn't even fat. It will come off pretty easily, when your body is ready to let it go. It is a vicious cycle. It's almost akin to the cycle of being depressed and eating, which causes you to gain weight, which causes you to be depressed and eat. And so on.

Some things in life just seem rigged against you. But, you don't need to remain trapped by them. Just do what you can to reduce your stress. Sleep the right amount, walk outside when you can, focus on the positive changes you can control, and so on. Remember that even the worst day on the scale is better than not paying any mind at all to your future self.

You'll get there. Just take it one day at a time.
