Running and weight gain/loss

I have been losing weight steadily since the beginning of March, then added the running program last week and am now up a pound. Nothing as changed in my diet - it can't be muscle gain from running 3 times, can it?

* I know. I need to put the scale away. I did this morning, but I'm frustrated none the less.

It's the usual water retention due to new muscle usage. Give it a week or two and your muscles time to adjust and I am sure it will disappear.

Water rentention, I'm sure of that. Besides, it's only a pound and weight loss is never linear even if you weigh yourself every morning in eve-costume after going to the toilet. Most women gain more than a pound before their period or if they do a pill stop week.

I think I am losing weight again thought (I'm maintaining, but barely it seems). Need to keep an eye on it as I don't want to lose more.

I agree it could be water retention due to being a new work out for your body.

I will add though ever since I started running (and training for a 5K) I have never been hungrier in my life! Running can burn a lot of calories, but I have noticed a difference in my appetite. It could just be me but something to maybe watch out for. I'm ~4 weeks out from my first 5K and I'm really nervous about it :| Just thought I would mention it just in case you notice you are hungrier once you get further into it.

This thread makes me feel better! I haven't lost any in the last week, either, but also just started running. Did it a couple of times at the gym, then decided that since I could now run for a minute and a half, take a break for a minute and a half, and do it again a couple more times, it was time to start my C25K. My second running day is today. So, hopefully, the scale will start to jump back down again soon!

@brans34 When I started using c25k (and running in general) I didnt see the scale move for over 2.5 weeks. It was tortuous-- and then a week later (after sticking with it) I was down 4 pounds.

Yes, it took a couple of weeks of barely any change, but I am now down almost 7 pounds since I started on the first.
