always do the math to assure yourself what it can't be - fast is not fat.

    3 lbs x 3500 / 7 days = 1500 surplus if it was truly fat.

Did you eat 1500 more than TDEE/maintenance for each of those 7 days?

    Not a chance, right.

    Water weight.

The other way to look at it.
2 weeks at 250 more daily over true potential TDEE would be a slow 1 lb gain.
35 days at 100 more daily over true potential TDEE would be a slow 1 lb gain.

Fat is not fast. On or off.

thank you yes its been over the last week so i guess water weight. it shocked me. i am still getting used to the idea of eating more is ok i have been in a crazy restricted world for so long. thankyou so much for this i seem to have problems with water retention from middle month to end of my monthly and the scale goes up and down between 3lbs so i guess this is what it could be.

Well, and your BMR literally does change through the month too.
So all resting time calorie burn is not constant for you.

You literally will have more deficit one week, less deficit another week. And the average usually matches the deficit on the other 2 weeks.

The BMR formula does take this effect in to account.

But if you were try to discern something with just 1 week of change, and picked the wrong week, not really a clear view in to what may happen.
