Issues with Nuts

Quick question. I've done the LCHF type diet before, but I am relatively new to ketosis. I've been <50g of carbs per day for 2 months now with all of the attendant impressive results of cutting carbs this low (I usually come in <30g). I started to notice my weightloss had stalled and did some reflection on why, I noticed I was eating a lot of dairy (cheese mainly, not milk). So I tried eliminating as much dairy as I could (I still have a few tablespoons of cream in my coffee at work). It worked. However, I am now really struggling to get more fat into my diet without raising my protein levels over where they need to be.

So I was thinking about adding 1-2 ounces of nuts during the day (probably almonds, hazelnuts or brazil nuts due to lower net carbs and a great fat to protein ratio). However a lot of LCHF sources online tell me nuts can derail ketosis and stall weightloss on LCHF. So here is my question:

Do nuts stall weightloss on keto simply because they are easy to over eat and the carb content stacks up, or is there something about the combination of nutrients within the nuts themselves that will stall weightloss and they should be avoided? For example, I believe the cassein in my cheese was causing my insulin to spike and was keeping down my weightloss. Are the proteins in nuts responsible for the same sort of spike?

Any opinions would be valuable, as well as ways to add more fat to my diet without adding protein. I do bulletproof type coffee with butter and coconut oil in the mornings. I would add avocados but they give me horrendous stomach cramps and serious digestive issues.

Thanks!

Nuts are easy to overeat so can cause carb creep and calorie creep. If you portion them out and eat an amount that fits in your daily carb allowance you should be fine. The only way to know is to try and see. Personally, I have pretty much had to cut out nuts this past month to get my carbs and calories down to get back into into weight loss mode, but that's me. You might be different. If you are looking to add fat, however, there are other ways to do it besides nuts, such as bulletproof coffee or fat bombs. Pretty much the only nuts I am eating these days is peanut butter or almond butter in my fat bombs.

The nuts I have seen recommended as highest fat for Keto is Macadamia, then Brazil….cashews are 20% or more carbs, and peanuts are not nuts, so choosing fresh ground almond butter which many grocery stores offer now can serve as an easy to eat fat source. Jars of HFS 'plain' almond butter are several dollars higher per pound.

Not sure why 'derail' is the word for nuts..a 1oz of Macadamia is 200 calories for 9,so they should have been more specific on the 'why'

Nuts can also cause bloating or GI distress for some.

Fat bombs are ideal. You can make them with almond butter and coconut oil and there are tons of recipes on the net to suit your taste. I find myself having to eat a fat bomb daily to help get my fat high enough without adding too much protein. I know you said you cut back on dairy but right now lemon cloud fat bombs are heaven sent and are made with lemon extract, fresh squeezed lemon juice, butter, cream cheese and coconut oil. I don't eat nuts as much as I would like to because those sneaky carbs add up without a lot of fat to them.
