Fuzzy head

I usually dont' like to throw my issues out there, but I was hoping someone recognized this and could help. I often wake up with a "fuzzy head". My head feels like it is full of fluff. I can not think straight and have to work hard to stay awake. I have wandered away from work and home during a few of these episodes like I was sleepwalking. Hauled off to the hospital twice. No one seems to know what is causing this. I am insulin resistant. Just started the low carb thing at the beginning of the year. I have never cared for sweets much, but since I have started low carb...all I can think of is candy, candy, candy.

I have no helpful comments (so why am I posting?) but just wanted to wish you all the best, I am sure this is very scary for you. Out of interest, how low carb are you?

Insulin resistant. Are you testing blood glucose levels? My first guess would be low but guessing is wrong. You need data.

    Wow! Scarry!
I have similar symptoms in the afternoon. Not so bad that people have to come and find me but often I'll be driving and think "Whoa, I'm totally not *here*. I really shouldn't be driving". I can't focus. My head hurts. I can completely forget what I was doing in less than 2 seconds. Only figuring it out based on what is on my list or what is actually in front of/around me.

It's quite bothersome. I don't have an answer but I'm testing some theories.

One is definitely low blood sugar.
    The other is low electrolytes.

One theory is symptoms are less if I eat a lot in the morning. I think maybe keeps my blood sugar more stable. (I hate eating before 3pm. The though of food just... blech)

The other is I think I need to be taking a pill to supplement electrolytes cause I just can't eat that much salt. I've tried adding it to EVERYTHING, and I cal a calcium/mag pill but...

So I would be very interested as well in any thoughts, experiences.

I wish you well my friend. Stay safe.

I have not been able to get lower that 45 carbs. Usually hovering between 45-50. Get those sneaky carbs from fruits and vegetables and lately from all that candy.

wow, sorry you're dealing with this. :-(

my fuzzy - headed - ness (not as severe, but sounds similar) has happened when my electrolytes are off (messes with my blood pressure) or blood sugar is low.

good luck, hope you get it figured out!

If you aren't drinking after six you may be waking a bit dehydrated. I would be super thirsty if I did that. Yes, I do have to wake to go potty, but don't have trouble sleeping so it doesn't bother me. The fluids also help maintain blood pressure, which could be a bit low for you, causing the fuzzy feelings. Good luck and hope it's better!

Thanks for the help and concerns. I think I am narrowing it down to dehydration. I also read that too much sugar can cause dehydration. I think I will work on this and see how that goes.

My personal ghost was a variation on this in which I would quite literally nod off after eating. Anything. Sitting at my desk at work. Sitting at home on the couch. 15-30 minutes after eating, I was out! Sometimes it was 30 seconds, sometimes (more at home), it would be closer to 15 minutes. No one seemed to know what it was.

Turned out it was what I jokingly called food narcolepsy, but what my doctor (endo) decided was a type of insulin resistance that responded to medication but did NOT show up on fasting insulin tests.

After struggling at my still stupid high carb levels while on medication, I finally got on the low carb bandwagon. Since then, I've taken myself off the medication due to complications, but I have a check up at the end of the month.

That mental fog you describe is EXACTLY what I was suffering while having this food problem and thyroid issues that were untreated because I was still in the "normal range" but not in normal range FOR ME. I strongly recommend getting to an endocrinologist if you can. It made all the difference for me.

And for the record, my blood sugar levels were never low. My body just couldn't figure out how the heck to do anything, process anything without turning my functional brain off!!!

    Hugs,
    Carly
