Calorie counting

I have binged since I was about 10 or 11. I'm now 52. I had lost 45 pounds last summer only to gain it back over the fall/winter when one of my kids left for the( 10th time ) to the Middle East. I'm reading many of the books suggested on here and trying to regain my health. With my main goal being great health and to end this crazy cycle I have a question for those of you who have kept the binges at bay, DO YOU COUNT CALORIES? And if so what do you base them on? TDEE-20%? I have always lost weight by keeping them super low but wonder if that is part of my binging issue. Would love suggestions and new friends! I just want off this roller coaster!

Just my 2 cents based upon my experience:
    1. Restricting (keeping calories too low) leads to eventual binging.
    2. The long term counting of calories is said to lead to binging according to most books on the matter.

I've only recently been trying not counting calories, so I cant really speak intelligently on that.
