My doctor closed her practice

My doctor decided she wasn't making enough money and closed her practice. I'm also in between jobs and can't afford to go to another doctor and get all of the tests done again. I do have two refills left but that will only last me 60 days. I'm not sure I can find another doctor to take me within those 60 days as well.

Since I have hypothyroid I need to know if their are suppliments that can encourage my thyroid to produce more hormones. I'm on 60 mg of Armour and its better but it's not quite enough to make me feel 100%.

Am I right? Probably not, you're on the natural? This is difficult if not impossible to replicate being what I would call the gold standard. There are so many reasons for needing thyroid support and these causes hold the key to what you need and why. Conversion from t4 to t3 can be a down fall for many of us. Most of what I have read is trying to optimise the remaining thyroid function we have.

Mineral and vitamin supplements are supposed to help. Using the mineral iodine is not always right usually it brings with it the need for selenium to balance any antibodies. B complex vitamins and zinc, could be beneficial its all about getting the right balance and is probably only for someone not on your level of medication. Avoiding various foods, soy, crucifiers and others is something you are already doing to some extent. I'm sure others will me more help than me.

It's probably best not to give up hope of being able to find another understanding practice. I hope all will come right in the next month to 6 weeks for you, being in good time. All the best.

I've switched doctors quite a few times and usually I would go in there and say I'm on "x medication for y and need a new prescription for it" and if they didn't believe me (which never happened), I had the box there with my details on it. No decent doctor would stop any treatment without doing tests unless there is cause to think you'd die. Do you have an old script, or label on your meds saying they belong to you?

Also by law in most areas, doctors have to keep medical files for so many years and even if her practiced is boarded up, those files didn't disappear. Legally, they can't. If her practice is connected to an umbrella corporation, call them and ask that they release your medical files to you. If this costs too much, ask them to release their medical files to a new doctor (this is usually a free service).

Good luck- and definitely don't give up hope of finding a new doctor.

No. The only cure for hypothyroidism is thyroid hormone replacement. And if you have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease), then your dosage requires careful monitoring.

Please find another doctor. Perhaps there are medical clinics near you with a sliding scale for fees?

I finally got a letter from my doctor telling me where to get my records. That's one issue down.

The second one is a new doctor. I hope I will be getting a job I have interviewed for near Las Vegas. there should be a good doctor or two there that I can work with.

I know that the isn't a cure for Hypothyroid but I was looking for suppliments that can help it out. I've been reading and saw that iodine is needed for a heathy thyroid. Most people get their iodine from salt but I hate salty food. So that could be causing a problem for me. So I found something called Thyoid Energy that has iodine, selenium, B vitamins, and a few other compounds. This was the only suppliment I found that didn't have desiccated thyroid gland in it as well. I know that is what my Armour is made of but I didn't want to take something that could potentially overdose me.

Right now I'm just taking one step at a time.

I'm pleased thing are looking more promising for you. Knowing where your records are will be a big help. I'd not realised they were missing.

As I said earlier working out how to treat hypothyroid or any thyroid predicament on ones own is not easy. The concept sounds as if it can be but there are so many buts. Taking things carefully is the way to go. You are right to be careful.

Chris Kresser, I think he is of a homoeopathic persuasion, brought himself back from a severe illness contracted while travelling, he has a site you may find interesting to read. There is another something like Thyroid mom who brings together information which may help.

KEEP POSITIVE. I hope before long you are in a position to find educated assistance from general medicine or a properly registered homoeopath or Functional medic.

Because of lack of insurance I had to go with out my thyroid for 7 years or so. I just went into new doctor and told him with my old records from 20 years back and he gave me the script. Even though he had not run the tests yet. Second apt my THS was showing I was over medicated on thyroid but my T4 was low. And he refuses to run all the thyroid tests at the same time. He argued all of this a bit the gave me a year script for the Armour. I am doing really well. no heart palpation's like on the Levo he put me on at first.

Most doctors know not to mess too much with your thyroid meds if they have been working for you because it is such a fine line for us between working or not. I always ask for my records after every appointment to keep in my hot little hands. For everything not just thyroid.

The good news is that I got the job as long as I pass my physical and drug test. So now I'm looking for a doctor in Las Vegas, St George UT, or Salt Lake City UT. If anyone has recommendations send them my way.
