Art therapy and other experiental therapies and techniques

Does anyone have experience with that? Does it help with the bingeing to learn to express emotions via techniques from these therapies (either with a counsellor or at home as DIY)? I am thinking about arts and dancing and things like that...maybe also sports?? I read and heard about different approaches: some say it is just about facing and withstanding the binge urge and others say it is about finding other ways to deal with emotions and to express them and also to find other ways to find your positive kicks than food. Some people even think that a combination of both is good: on the one hand side do more to express feelings and get better moods and on the other hand side being prepared to just "urge surfe" and face the binge urge without reacting on it. What is your opinion? What are your experiences?
