Hi all. I wanted to see if there was anything I could do about the pain that I get in the heel of my hand when doing the OHP (primarily in my left hand). I don't know how to change this or if there is anything I can do.

Can you find a position that works better? Try suicide grip instead maybe? Wrist wraps to keep your wrists a little straighter/more secured may help too.

Thanks. My wrist doesn't hurt at all, but just the area under my pinkie, half-way down the hand. I'll try anything (though the suicide grip does look a bit scary with putting a bar over my head w/o a thumb gripping).

While I don't recommend the suicide grip on OHP, if you use a wrist strap before lifting overhead it should help keep it in place.

This is an educated stab in the dark, but if you're right handed then the muscles of your left hand are probably fairly weak in comparison. Specifically the flexor digiti minimi brevis. It might just be reacting to you squeezing the crap out of the bar during your presses when it's not quite up to the task yet. It's easy enough to test- try squeezing with your thumb and first three fingers but leaving your pinkie loose and see how that pans out. I would not suggest using straps overhead as it makes it much harder to bail out of a lift.

Suicide grip is actually the best grip to use for OHP usually - it really is not as 'scary' as it seems from the name. It is more secure than you probably think.

I would never recommend it for bench however.
