Also, I don't think your post disproves that some fat people are healthier than some skinny people. I would think that body fat was an indicator, but certainly not decisive. Of course, much of it depends on how we define "health."0

You're right that some fat people are healthier than some skinny people. But don't let that make you comfortable about being overweight if your fat is in the abdominal region (that's mostly ectopic fat -- liver, intestines, heart, arteries, etc.).
The studies are interesting. Most of them are observational and don't go into the mechanisms at play. They probably didn't study you, and you're the only one who matters.0 -
It's just a slide show. The only sound you'd miss is music.
Vegetarians do have a lower rate of obesity than most folk. It's hard, but not impossible, to get fat eating just veggies. Hard to get enough protein too -- a lot of them also lack muscles.
We have a receptionist at work that is a vegan, and she is gaunt and looks like death warmed over.

I think Vegan and Vegetarian are two diets that people take on without a lot of education. Moral choices are fine, but you are still a machine that needs fueling and lubrication to run smoothly. I know vegetarians that eat crisps and fruit all day and never consider their protein sources or how to balance all that sugar with... anything else!0

My sister is vegan and obese. She was always the thin sister. She has become obese since first becoming vegetarian and then it snowballed when she became vegan.
I worry for her. I know she drinks too much, but her diet is carb-heavy as well. It's obviously not a good recipe for her.

There is a ketogenic vegetarian who posts here occasionally. She includes fish and eggs, and maybe cheese too. That actually sounds like a pretty good diet to me -- all the nutrients you need, including lots of omega-3.0

My brother, sister, and I are an interesting experiment in diet and fitness. I've been low carb Paleo for some time, and have recently switched to carnivore. My sister has been vegetarian for about a decade at this point, and my brother went vegan a couple of years ago (just had to outdo his big sister).
My brother's thin as a rail and always has been, but he's always been insanely active. He's also a cyclist (it's nothing for him to bike from Cleveland, Oh to Niagra Falls). I haven't seen much of his diet, but I know it's at least some grains (he ordered spaghetti last time I ate lunch with him).
My sister, though an athletic trainer, has never been all that active and has been overweight for about as long as I can remember, and I think she's gained weight the more she's gone vegetarian. As I recall, her diet isn't perfect, but it's not totally great, either. It's a lot of starches (black beans, breads, pastas, etc).
I've been overweight since at least early puberty, though I suspect due to the old diet (especially given the immediate response I'm having to zero carb). I fall in between their activity levels -- not totally sedentary, but I'd probably die if I tried biking the distances my brother does.
It'll be interesting to see what happens in the coming years, but my sister's weight has always kind of worried me, in part because she doesn't seem at all concerned with it (she carries her weight well, so she still looks good, despite it).0 -
I was going to say what Dragonwolf said. Most of the v*gans I know eat a *stack* of grains, and tofu, and TVP - all foods that I believe to be 'bad'.
I was an octo-pescetarian-chicken eater for around 30 years. I lived on bread. And sugar. It's a wonder I'm still alive.0
