Trying to get back to what works for me.

I came over here after seeing all the LCHF hate on the main boards. I've also been a part of a small group from another forum (mommy related) for the last month who really encouraged me to increase my carbs (I had even added a little sugar! :open_mouth: )... Not only did my weight loss stall, but I've actually put back on a couple of pounds. Ugh!!

Short bio on me, mom to 8 (6 I birthed) and I've been as high as 277 lbs (I am 5'4.5"). I lost 65 lbs some years ago, but put some back on over the years. I was as low as 201 at the end of a Whole 30 in Oct 2013, but stress and life found me and I started this journey (again!) at 240.2 just about a month ago. I had lost 14 lbs, but that was really in the first 2 weeks. I've evaluated what went "wrong" in the last 2 weeks and it is definitely related to my carb intake. FOR ME, CICO does not work... even more frustrating is that I've been working out like crazy and the scale won't budge. If I were closer to goal weight, that wouldn't matter as much, but I am not. Yes, I have gained some muscle, but I need to be burning off this fat, too.

Some relevant history: PCOS, quite insulin resistant, was borderline diabetic, but got that down with weight loss (which I need to maintain!), multiple thyroid issues (I've cycled hyper to hypo, been hypo pretty consistently lately), heavy family history of heart disease, early heart attacks (mom MI at 55, dad fatal MI at 52), etc. I am 43, I am running out of time to get it right.

CICO can work for some people (heh, like 5%), but it sounds like LC is definitely made for you.

Hang out here for support. Go back to the main boards for entertainment. :)

I feel like I should also note that I tend to eat cleanly at home (paleo-ish) so getting off of sugar is not a big deal for me... anymore. When I did the Whole 30, I lost 17 lbs and had virtually no intentional exercise and I *know* I am at least gluten sensitive, so more the reason to push through.

Yes, you made it to the right place. I choose to ignore all of the naysayers! I will live the live that works for me and they can live the life that works for them. The main forum IS entertaining, but I choose to stay where the real support is! Read everything you can here. I've only been here a few months, but have learned so much from this amazing group!

Welcome! I never even visit the main forums. It's nice and safe in here! :D

Well I never dared post, but some folks get beat up out there. It's sad, really.

When I lost the 65 lbs, I still could eat everything but that was just as the GMOs were really hitting the market. Also, that was about 15 years ago and my metabolism is very different now. With all my autoimmune issues, no one is going to convince me that the chemicals in our traditional diets don't play a role. I also have some mutations that make it difficult for me to clear toxins, MTHFR being one of them.

Thanks for the welcome. I unapologetically had an omelet this morning with bacon, feta and spinach.

Welcome! Regardless of your WOE, remember to have other ways to measure you success besides the scale like taking measurements, pictures, how your clothes fit, and how you feel mentally and physically. Sounds like you want to be healthy as well as lose weight (which is the right motivation IMO), so be nice to yourself and remember changes can happen that you can't always see! Keep up the good work!

I have done just that this time. I have indeed continued to lose inches, almost 4 on my waist this month already, a few more elsewhere.... I have also taken "before" pics that I shared with my mommy group. I am trying to focus on all that as well, but know I am going to be much happier (and healthier) to get under 200 lbs, something I have not been able to do my entire adult life! If nothing else, my joints will thank me!

    Thanks for the encouragement! :)
