Carnivore Day 3

Okay, so I kind of jumped the gun on Meativore May and started a couple of weeks early. It was mostly to prove to myself that I could do it, and to prevent my brain talking me out of it over the next two weeks.

But! I'm finishing up Day 3, and I have to say, I feel pretty good.

I'm down 1.8lbs since I started, which is pretty huge for me (can't wait to see tomorrow's weight, to see if this keeps up). And I have tons of energy!

Okay...let me rephrase that -- I have endurance out the wazoo, even on an empty stomach.

So, I normally walk my son to daycare in the mornings. That's about a mile, round-trip. No biggie. I also go for a walk at lunchtime on nice days to get some sun. That's about 3 miles. I do that before I eat. I have also been doing the 100 Pushups Challenge, again before eating (I actually did the Challenge, grabbed a piece of cheese, then went for a walk, then ate lunch). That felt pretty good, though I could tell I've jumped on a bit too much, too quick after not having done much while my back was busy yelling at me.

Then...my husband asked me to mow the yard.

Now, you have to understand something. We have a reel mower. It's actually really awesome, and saves a ton of money in maintenance costs. Not to mention it's far better for both noise and the environment. Win all around!

It's also a hell of a workout, because all the power to get through the grass comes from the carbon-based creature pushing it.

I did it, though, before dinner. I wanted nothing more than to go to bed after I got out the shower (I haven't, because that was about 7:30 and if I did that, I'd be up at 4am). I should sleep well tonight, that's for sure!

I didn't really want to eat dinner, but after all I'd done and how I was feeling, I knew it would be a good idea to. I didn't totally want some of the leftover meat muffins, but the steak that I was drooling over the thought of is still frozen solid in the freezer, so I ate the muffins anyway.

Yep...good day. :)

Steady, constant energy is pretty much how things go. Word of advice, always keep more steak thawed than you think you'll need. LOL

Glad things are working. Explain to me how I get my wife to mow the lawn. She tells me it's not happening because I have the same mower you do.

I posted it in the recipes thread (and its own thread that's now on page 2 or 3). Basically, hamburger with cheese stuffing baked in a muffin tin.

Haha, I'm finding that out. :)

As for the mowing...good question. I'm sure telling her it's a good workout will go over like a lead balloon. :) (You could tell her that she's young and capable... ;)).

    Way to go Dragonwolf !

You know, I can see that my carb intake is getting lower and lower, kind of naturally. I am intrigued by the meat challenge and want to give it a try. I have 2 freezers full of meat for Pete's sake ! I even dreamt about it, and woke up all excited, eager to give it a try. But then I got scared. (Even though the meat muffins make me drool.) You see I work in the health care field. The dietitian at our facility sits next to me at work. I mentioned this May challenge to her. She is horrified that I am doing keto, but looked visibly disturbed by the thought of me eating an all meat diet.

Now I am all for not following CW and know that I am feeling better all around, first when I went paleo, then more so when I started eating lower carb. My chiropractor is all for me doing keto, since he was the one who taught me to go grain free and sugar free. But I wanted his opinion on a meat only diet....and now he advises against it, over fear of what will happen to me without some vegetables.

I don't know what to do now. I know I have constant energy already.....even my dietitian next to me comments on it. She sees me go all day on only water and coffee. I know it's because I am not eating nearly as many carbs as she is. She is a sweet girl and I love her. She is supposed to be the expert, but I feel that I don't trust her judgement since it is so conventional. I do trust my chiropractor's judgement however since he is already a rebel, so I am torn. I suppose that could be because we are all taught that we need vegetables to be healthy.

I was tempted to try the meat challenge since although I eat eggs for breakfast and meat for supper, I am still usually below my protein goal for the day. I thought more meat would help that. And I want to win our next weight loss challenge at work. Not sure what to do.

It is only for 30 days and you can stop anytime you want during that time if you feel ill or that it is wrong for you.

Yes, I suppose that is true..... I haven't felt ill since starting keto, so don't know why I am scared now...

Probably because it's giving up vegetables entirely, unlike regular keto, where you can still eat some vegetables. And yeah, people have it indoctrinated into their heads that we need vegetables. We really don't.

The only vitamin you can get from plants that you can't get from animal sources is Vitamin C (at least not in any great quantity). However, on an all (fresh) meat diet, you don't really need Vitamin C, because one of the primary purposes of Vitamin C is to produce collagen. Meat provides the compounds necessary to make collagen without Vitamin C. Combined with the small amounts of Vitamin C raw or very lightly cooked meat does have, it seems to be sufficient.

So if I decide to do this, I wouldn't need to supplement with Vitamin C ? I also take fish oil and magnesium daily and Vitamin D3 in the winter. To tell you the truth I really only average one serving of vegetables per day now, so maybe it's not really as big of a leap as I imagine it to be...

That's correct. You shouldn't need the fish oil if you can get ahold of pastured meats and eggs, or actual fish. The magnesium and D3 might be useful if you know you're deficient, though. The challenge doesn't disallow supplements other than fiber, so use your discretion on that front if you join us.

HHmmm, maybe I'm healthier than I think. 95% of my meat is grass fed and pastured, since I buy directly from organic farmers. I get beef, pork, chicken, turkey, etc, along with 6 dozen eggs monthly. I should eat more fish probably, but I have so much meat there is a lot of variety. Our farmers gave us lamb chops, chicken and home made nitrate free cold cuts today, oh and turkey breakfast sausage, no fillers.

So if I do the challenge I couldn't take my nightly magnesium ? I've been taking it for years to reduce leg cramps. I won't stop the Vitamin D until end of May probably, when I will be out in the sun daily.

I've been really enjoying being a carnivore. I'm right back into it today and I feel better already.

It's great reading about what everyone is doing with their eating plans.

Tell her it'll build her bust and/or slim her waist, whichever she'd prefer to hear? o:)

Here's a 'Kiwi' nutritionist telling her story of being trained wrongly and has now seen the light https://youtube.com/watch?v=51NS_RBW4tY

I'm vaguely considering the meat challenge but the only 'red meat' I can eat so far is pork and bacon - otherwise I'm a chicken and seafood girl and I don't think that will cut it ;) I did eat one bit of a beef mince thing last week and didn't chuck up so I'm getting there. But perhaps not in time for next month.

This thread certainly does sound encouraging. Can it be done with chicken, fish, pork, bacon and eggs do you think? And I remember reading 'some cheese' is OK. Not promising I'll get on board just yet, only considering options and getting my head around this. As a raw vegan from 2007-'09 this is the polar opposite ROFL I'm far happier on low carb than raw vegan. And it's way easier to eat out on low carb too.

It's a good thigh slimming exercise. Nice toned calves. Either of those perhaps lol

None of these would get me to mow the lawn now. When I was teenager, however, we lived on a 1/2 acre and I mowed the lawn for 2 reasons:

    1. Vanity
    2. Vanity

:) Exercise and a suntan (I mowed wearing just a swimsuit and boots).

Lol. I was on a site that does 6-week challenges and chose to try eating a veggie every day for one of mine...and failed.

I've mostly been trying to do this, though not strictly (I had a piece of celery yesterday and cucumber today), but I'm finding it easier and easier just to forget that veggies are a thing.

I knew that we didn't need vitamin C eating this way, but I hadn't known why...and it hadn't been important enough to me to research why. I'm SO glad to have this information, because this makes so much sense. Thanks!!!!

P.S. I'm looking forward to doing carnivore, too, though it seems like the more I try to shift over, the more sweet-ish cravings I get. And last night, I got a great deal on some berries, so I'm trying to get my guy to eat them up. LOL Might just freeze them for him for eventually... I need to break my AS issue....
