How much should I be worrying about food?

I'm completely new to all of this - I'm currently 144lbs, 5 foot 5 and just looking to lose weight really.
Have been reading for ages and ages about free weights and finally bought a set of adjustable dumbells to get started.
My question is how much should I be thinking about what I'm eating? I'm following slimming world at the moment and according to the scales the weight is coming off so should I just continue as I am food-wise for the moment?
Everything seems to get so confusing when you start talking about carbs/protein etc.
Thanks!
