Does anyone else really struggle with edema? I have a terrible time with it. The dr has me on a new med and it seems to be helping. I have tried to find diet causes over the years and haven't had any luck.

I had puffy ankles when I was first diagnosed with Hashimoto's in Aug. 2012. It eventually went away.

I didn't ever have it until I got pregnant and now I seem to have puffy ankles all the time. I have been drinking as much as I can to see if that might flush it, but otherwise I'm hoping that getting a bit of weight off might help.

I just plain requested a diuretic, plus I drink a ton. About four pounds in a couple of days, and I felt so much better. For maintenance, my diuretic, lots of water, watching out for high sodium foods. Taking the diuretic is not without its own risks, but I am an RN and aware of the potential problems, and it is worth it for me.
