Hi all,
I'm waiting on a date for my surgery and have started tracking. Seeing your progress is so inspiring! I would love to have some new friends to follow and inspire me, if anyone is willing to add me.
Also, if you could go back and give advice to your pre surgery self, what would you say?
Thanks for your time and keep up the great work!!

Good luck! I have an appointment Monday to set my date! Very excited. The only advice I have is to be patient. I started my journey in January and its been a rollercoaster of emotions and lots of waiting. Good luck! Add me!0

Hi! Welcome, the best piece of advice I was given was start your habits pre-surgery (food logging, exercise, vitamins, cut out caffiene, get in your water, sip over the course of the day, etc.) it makes the transition so much easier - I did all those things my fiance didn't - he waited, he battled headaches from the caffiene, says he's peeing too much and is having trouble getting up and down post surgery ( the peeing goes away as your body get's used to it) and I'm still nagging about logging keeping track of your protein intake is so important! Good habits are like breathing you can't live without them best wishes ladies! You are going to do great!0

Which surgery are you having? I'm booked in for a band June 12th. Nervous but more excited. I was 11 years old when I started my first diet. Now I'm 28 and I don't want ten years to go by and I wake up still struggling. I'm doing this first for me then second for my family.0 -
Hello there!
Anyone that wishes to add me, please feel free.
Pretty much what everyone has said so far is what to do. As far as after the surgery goes, you'll want to get inventive with your food. Otherwise it will feel like you're just having the same thing all the time, which not only gets boring but demoralizing.
When you start off with the broths, change them up. Don't have the same one each time. Also, once you start feeling up to it (and you're closer to have more solid foods like mashed potatoes) add some spices that will easily dissolve in the broth - like powdered garlic and powdered onion. Remember, moderation is key and you're still healing...so only a touch is needed! (Plus, any change will be noticeable by this point.)
By the time I was half way through my pureed phase, I was getting sick of eating mashed potatoes and refried beans. What was worse, I'm the one that does the cooking in the house. So while I'm grilling up steaks for everyone else, I've got a tiny bowl of mashed potatoes in front of me. In fit I announced to the table, "Dammit! I'm having some steak tonight!" I stood up, grabbed the platter of steaks, and poured some of the juices from the steaks that I grilled onto my potatoes.
Damn they were good! hehe
I was able to have steak & potatoes without having the steak. And since the steaks were seasoned when I cooked them, the juices had the flavoring of the meat & seasoning.
You'll just need to find ways to keep yourself from being bored with your food. Check out my blog here on MFP every so often. I'm going to try to update it regularly with the things that I have learned, am learning, and the recipes/tricks that I come up with to keep my food exciting yet nutritious.
