very specific craving

I'm having trouble trying to combat a very specific craving. For weeks I have been wanting a cruller/donut...I have not indulged, thinking that the longer I stick to LC that craving will eventually fade. It has not...and that is the only off limits craving I seem to be having. Do I dare buy one, take a bite and chuck the rest out just to quench the urge...or is that a disaster waiting to happen?

DISASTER! Don't do it! Don't allow yourself to be fixated on it, b/c you'll eventually rationalize that you just need to eat it. Put your focus on something better in life than a cruller/donut.0

I would go ahead and get it. I think you will be very suprised at how "not good" that pastry is. For me pastry always looks so good, yet falls so flat in the satisfying department.
Now, my current specific craving ... I'm very glad I am 9,000+ miles away. Saves me from myself.0 -
Mine is similar, I crave cappucino...but today I drove right by...I did feel like I was going to miss out, and I'm yawning like ridiculously crazy, but I know that I just can't... I think I can stay strong but I'll fail. I can't fail. No more! You can do this!

I agree with kuranda as I had a similar experience. They were in the office and I had been doing very well so I thought I could afford it. It was really a let down once I tasted it. Now they no longer appeal to me.farmers_daughter wrote: »Mine is similar, I crave cappucino...but today I drove right by...I did feel like I was going to miss out, and I'm yawning like ridiculously crazy, but I know that I just can't... If you are craving cappucino, try primal coffee. I think it's a good substitute taste wise and it's a great keto diet item. I've been doing a cinnamon blend, however I got some cocao and I think I'll try chocolate tomorrow.0 -
Where would I find this primal coffee? I'm not a huge coffee fan, more like "milked down" hot chocolate, hence the sugar. Also - I need to find this "bulletproof" coffee that I've been hearing about too...but butter in coffee just sounds weird.
Edit - Ok I'm a ding dong I googled it. hmmm...egg in coffee. I'd end up with scrambled coffee and eggs for sure lol0 -
I nearly caved to the giant Cadbury's fruit and nut chocolate bar that is in the house (it's my daughter's - she was given it but she doesn't like it). I had to cram my mouth with dark chocolate and run out and do somethign else to avoid it. But still epic fail as had about 50g 85% dark chocolate taking me well over my carbs for the day... Feeling generally demotivated.0

Don't sweat it... Tomorrow is another day.0

I make my own variation on bulletproof coffee with a scoop of protein powder added. then ice it, its delicious and hardly tastes like coffee, I don't even miss the Tim Horton's iced cappuccinos that I used to get multiple times a week in the warm weather
Take one cup brewed coffee (I use my keurig)
add 14 g coconut oil (I use refined so no coconut flavor)
add 14 g grass fed butter (like Kerry gold)
add 1 scoop protein powder (currently using plant based smooth chocolate but its a little too sweet)
blend together till emulsified, it will look creamy and foamy on top (if you have a nutrininja or similar that works perfect, others use a stick blender or frother)
I then add ice and blend again until its cold. this gives me a great start to my morning and energy till lunch.0 -

I don't like coffee so I use yea. But you could do a half coffee half cocoa kind of version that would be more cappuccino-ish.
My LOADED Tea
My loaded tea is a combination of the primal egg coffee recipe and bullet proof coffee, but with hot tea. I loathe coffee with a passion.
For those not used to coconut oil, please start slowly (no more than 1/2 TBSP-1 TBSP at first....) because it can lead to bathroom sprints and loose bowels. Acclimate slowly and you'll be able to up it. The heavy cream and coconut oil are to my personal tastes - you can increase or decrease. Also, a lot of folks making the traditional BPC use grassfed butter. I didn't like it at the time, but might try adding it to my egg version at some point...)
INGREDIENTS:
3 tea bags (I just use Lipton out of convenience...I like it STRONG)
12-16 oz super hot water to steep
dash pink himalayan salt (5-6 seconds on my battery grinder)
2 raw whole eggs
2-4 TBSP of heavy whipping cream
1-2 TBSP coconut oil, 3 sweetener packets (prefer stevia)
DIRECTIONS:
Pour boiling/steaming water over tea bags to steep.
Shake everything except the tea in a shaker bottle while the tea steeps.
Once everything is well mixed/blended and tea is steeped, pour in 1/3 to 1/2 of the tea. Shake until you hear the coconut oil stop thumping (it's solid here until melted) and the temperature cools naturally from the combining hot and cold.
Do this again until all the tea is mixed in.
Then shake some more. Usually about 2-3 minutes of shaking because I don't have a stick or regular blender at work.
NOTES: This yields a rich, creamy, custardy, decadent tea with lots of fuel for my body. It is SO filling, sometimes I can't finish it all. It leaves me full well up until lunch, and many times, even following with a light-calorie wise lunch, I'm not hungry until 7 or 8 pm... It is so AWESOME for me.... Simplifies breakfast, and the caffeine and coconut oil give me energy for hours!
I have tried it with other flavors and such (vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa powder, chai tea - I don't like the tea bags I got), but the basic recipe is so great...
ADDED NOTE: This can also be done without the eggs. Salt is optional at that point. I find the eggs added makes me stay full longer, but a 150 - 200 calories snack with the tea would accomplish the same task, as 2 eggs are 140 calories, give or take.0 -

DO NOT DO IT. I had one tiny bite of a croissant donut and I wanted to binge for a damned week. Find a muffin in a minute (microwave mug recipe) that is similar. They can be made low carb friendly. Pinterest is a good option for a knock off. For me, it was easier to stop the cravings, even super specific ones, by just dropping the fake-sweet crap from my eating. Haven't had a "REAL" craving now going on 2 weeks...and I'd have them at least once a day for a while when adding that fake-sweet junk....0 -
If you feel that you can control the situation, then do it. By control, I mean that you can cut the doughnut into fourths, take one bite, chew slow, really taste it, and then decide if you want another bite, then do it. Taking that second to pause on the first bite will be the deciding factor between indulging in a craving and getting rid of it or having a binge with more cravings to follow. If you can't take control, don't do. Find a LCHF option.0

The other day a co-worker made homemade brownies and left one on my desk. I though, I have been really good, I will allow ONE small bite. I took 1 small bite, but it was not as good as I expected and I ended up spitting my ONE small bite out! Also, a technique I do, is every time I want something I should not have, I do 20 squats!0

It's just the weirdest thing...as the day goes on, the craving fades...but every morning it's right there at the forefront yelling at me "I want a cruller!"...not just any donut...a cruller. Morning donuts have never even been a habit in the past, so I don't know where it's coming from. I didn't know if having just a bite would shut it up. But maybe I'll try doctoring up a muffin in a minute and see if that works any wonders first. When I did LC in the past, it was chips & crunchy stuff that were always floating in my mind...nothing ever sweet and this specific. Thanks for all the suggestions...the more I think about it, the more I don't think I'm ready to test my will with a bite...especially if it ends up tasting good. Stoopid cravings.0

Something else to try is to get graphic. What exactly is it you're craving? The crispy edge of the cakey donut? The "break" in the icing as your teeth bite through it? The burst of sweetness from the icing? The texture? Seriously sit down and mull it over and get detailed and graphic. Once you isolate which point or points is the key to your fixation, you know better how to "answer" it.
Also, figure out if it is situational? Did you used to sit and have coffee and crullers with your favorite Grandpa on Saturdays over the summer growing up? Was it a treat you had with your ex? Did you always dream of making it a tradition? Sometimes it is the emotional context that has us yearning for something, and until we give ourselves a point of reference, it's hard to "solve" the dilemma.0 -
I find when I have an unrelenting craving for ONE food, the need is purely emotional. If your body needs anything, it's nutrients. It's not going to demand (and strike if it goes without) a specific food item.
Try to identify why you wake up with an emotional craving. Is there something that upsets you before bed, or as you get up? Do you dread going to work? Maybe this is a self-comfort desire to avoid the stress of something else.0 -
@KnitOrMiss Re: your loaded tea
HOLY CRAP LADY!!
So today, I knew I needed to eat something but I just didn't want to eat. I read this thread and I thought.... well lets try her loaded tea. (I've been trying to reduce my coffee, even though i just drink decaf and only black)
So that being said, I don't do dairy except butter (zero carb)
I used your 16oz water, two tea bags, 1 tbs each butter and coconut oil (only use it in these loaded drinks because i find it emulsifies everything better) and a touch of cinnamon oh and two eggs.
HOLY CRAP LADY!!
This tastes like I'm sinning! It's my chai tea lattee! Well, almost, but if I made it with chai tea it would be pretty acceptably close now that I don't eat sugar. Bingo! We have a winner.
All you out there who are like.... nah, I drink coffee, whoa, she has understated her creation! Mwah! Love it!0 -

Thank you, but I didn't create it - I just tweaked it out and modified it!I'm glad so many people have branched out and tried it their way. I have some new chai tea at home I like, but it's strong (I didn't like the first kind I bought...lol).... I might revisit this again.
