Hey everyone! I've been on a 1200 calorie limit since mid November but got serious with it around January. In the beginning it worked but for the past month or so I've been fluctuating on the scale and I think the major calorie drop just isn't a good long-term plan. I've calculated my TDEE and BMR (guessing on the sedentary side; some weeks are more active than others) and it turns out my BMR is 1660! No wonder I've had no energy since I began cutting down to 1200! Because I don't want to spike too quickly I'm just adjusting my calories to 1500 a day and going to up it from there once I see how that affects me.
I've heard all over the site that survival mode isn't a thing; CiCo is the only factor. But I feel like a cut that big for a long period of time has to wear out the body to some degree. I also think that with a few hundred extra calories a day I'll be more willing to get up and move instead of going from work to couch, which can only help the weight loss. I am a little scared about weight gain for the first week or so but I'm prepared to stick with it; might as well, it's not like the weight is going anywhere right now anyway
Feel free to add me, always happy to have accountability buddies!

Here's a study that shows the starvation mode (not starving, 2 different things and side effects), and the effects are real, and known for over 20 years easy.
The Ci can actually change the Co.
The math does indeed still work, it's just who is going to be that successful short or long term with both sides going down to bare bottom before it starts working again.
