Sleep patterns

Since starting low carb, I haven't managed to have a lie in in weeks! I wake up usually soon after 6 and I'm awake and raring to go. This morning I was wide awake at 5.15am and had so much excess energy I didn't know what to do with myself, so I went straight to the gym and ran 5k.

I'm not complaining per se, as it's nice not to have to drag myself out of bed in the morning (that was happening quite a bit on the old lifestyle - hitting the snooze again and again) but will I ever be able to sleep in again? Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm the opposite. LCHF is helping me sleep better. But I'm a lot older than you, and had a lot of hormonal stuff going on, including excess cortisol. How many hours are you sleeping and are you feeling rested? When I was not sleeping, I would feel exhausted an hour after getting up even if I hadn't done anything yet.

Me too! When my husband is home, I am always up early to drive him where he needs to go, so I used to relish when he goes back on the road because I can sleep in! HA! Not anymore!
At 6am Tuesday I got a call asking me to fill in for someone at work at 9, and I tried to roll over and catch a few more Zzzz's but no deal. So, Wednesday I thought I might sleep in - nope, up by 830, and again yesterday. (You must realize I go to bed after midnight because of work) I joked with my daughter that I am broken! Tried again to stay in bed today - no such luck.
I haven't yet been ambitious enough to use that time for exercise though. Good for you!

My sleep has improved greatly over the past 3 weeks.

I attribute LC to not having the 10pm munchies anymore. I used to have the feeling of hunger even though I ate all my calories. I still average the same amount of calories. Just more fats, less carbs.

I fall asleep faster at 10pm, but that could be because I'm actually exercising in the evenings and I'm tired when I go to bed.

I am sleeping deeper, but truthfully I attribute the soundness of sleep to having little alcohol (1 glass) for the past month.

Even though I drink much more water this past month, I don't wakeup with the urge of a 1am pee break.

I don't feel dread at 6am. I used to feel I could use 2 more hours! Now, I have more clarity when I awake. I think credit goes to the combination of positive changes.

I have found that I don't require as much sleep as I did. I go to bed around 11pm, most nights, and wake around 5am (sometimes earlier). I'm finding that LCHF provides for each of us what our body needs.
