Had RNY 4/1/15. Have ulcer and stricture. Was dilated twice without much improvement. Eating only about 40 protein, mostly protein drinks, pudding, yogurt. Anything with more texture usually has me vomiting. Only getting 16 oz water daily. Crushed ice is better tolerated. I am 7 wks out and really getting discouraged. Anyone else have these problems? How long before you felt better? I ALWAYS feel full and I have to force down everything I take in.

I am almost 7 years out from my RNY. I have not experienced any problems. I hope your feel better soon. Go back to your doctor if things do not improve.

I am only 6 days out and some days are better than others. I am about your age and wonder if that makes it a little harder for us to bounce back like some of the younger ones.

@dzoerner I too hope you are better real soon! And I hope your following up with your doctor closely 16oz of liquid intake daily doesn't sound like enough to keep you adequately hydrated - sending you some good energies that things clear up real soon!

Dzoerner, I have not had the complications that you have been dealing with. But a lady in my support group had the same issues. What I can tell you is that it will get better. I hate that Pam had to go through so much, but she is about 5 and 1/2 months post-op and is doing great. I think life started to get more normal for her at about month 4. Poor thing had to drink alot of liquids, for much longer than the rest of us. I agree that you need to try harder to get in more protein and if you drink it, that will count toward you fluid intake. Be choosy about what protein you will drink. I drink a Premier Protein shake everyday for breakfast. It has 30 grams of protein for each shake. They are a little more expensive, but when you need the protein...definitely worth it. They are not super thick, and just 2 per day will give you 60 grams of protein and 22 ounces of fluid, add a greek yogurt to the mix and you will be at 72 grams of protein per day. Hang in there, it will get better. Best of luck to you!!

Do you all count your protein shakes as fluid as well as protein??? My nutritionist said I could NOT. Can't count skim milk either. Only clear liquids like water, crystal light or tea. Are you making your shakes with water or milk?

I was told any clear liquid could count as fluids but my protein shakes and milk did not...

dzoerner are you doing any better? Isopure protein drinks are clear liquid and 2g protein per ounce. I got mine at GNC. I like the Grape frost, Blue raspberry and the Alpine punch. So a 20 ounce bottle is 40 grams of protein.

I use the bariatric fruit drinks from Bariatric Advantage in place of Crystal Light. There's 15 grams of protein in each one. I like the cran-grape the best.

My dietician gave me a list of items that I could count as fluids and they included some foods that I would have considered solid. She told me I could count the greek yogurts, protein shakes, soups, popsicles, puddings and jellos. You really need to work on fluid intake so you won't be dehydrated. That could send you back to the hospital. I tried the Isopure protein drink that I purchased presurgery (blue raspberry) and found it awful. Only one I have hated from the first sip. Glad to pass that by since it was nearly $4 a bottle! Compared to my Premier at only about $1.50 per shake, I was glad to go back to Premier. At 30g per 11 oz, I find it worth it.

Oh and I was also told I could have the G2 Gatorade in moderation.
