I'm just shy of ten months RNY, 8/21/12. I have never dumped, but I haven't had anything with added sugar yet either. I do have fatty meats sometimes, which haven't bothered me at all. I can eat a fair amount in one sitting, about eight ounces of meat at a meal, but only once a day. Other meals are much smaller. I worried about that a little at first, but I never graze. I usually have the opposite problem, having to remind myself to eat as often as I should.

I passed my surgeon's goal 53 pounds ago, and my own goal 28 pounds back. I'm now at a healthy BMI, and still losing about 1-1/2 pounds a week. I increased daily calories to 1400 per day, and will increase to 1500 in July.

Don't worry about how much you can eat at once, especially if it is nutrient dense food and not empty calories. I think grazing is a much bigger issue for regain than portion size. You are doing fantastic. You will hit goal before you know it.

I am 9 months post op and I can probably eat about 3/4 to 1 cup at a meal--maybe more. I am having to "relearn" the signs of fullness already and stopping at that point. I am hungry almost all the time. I surpassed my surgeon's and dietitian's goal 13 pounds ago, but my goal is still 15-20 pounds away. I also have never had actual dumping syndrome. The worst I have had is a rapid heartbeat if I eat something like ice cream. I also do not eat the "big" amounts at all meals. Snacks are very small, as is lunch. I think the important thing is to remain diligent about what we put in our bodies. I don't see how we could live our lives, for years on end, eating 1/2 cup of food or less and maintain a normal weight. At some point, we are expected to be able to put in a little more.

Hello there! I posted in this group for the first time yesterday under the introduction thread.

I had my RNY 8-1/2 yrs ago. I never really "dumped' but if I had sugar in small amounts it would make me very tired. I still have that issue with ice cream. Knocks me out like a bottle of wine!

My story was kind of long so if you feel like reading it, go over to the introduction page and look up my post from yesterday.

I can eat like there's no tomorrow. For the past 4 weeks, I've been on track for the first time in almost 6 yrs. Gained a lot of the weight back. I'm eating lots of protein which really helps me. Also, drinking tons of water. Getting back to the basics you could say.

I know the longer we're out, the more we can eat, but it's learning (or in my case, relearning, to stop when you start to have the full feeling).

Feel free to add me as a friend since I'm looking for buddies to do this life change with.

    Suzen :)

I had my RNY on 8/31/09 -- I dump even today if I eat sugar. I have been diligent to stay free and clear of all added sugars so that I do not "get used to it".... I don't want to get used to the sugars again - eating sugar is what got me to 399 pounds! I call myself one of the lucky ones

I lost 216 pounds at my lightest and have sustained a 195 pound weight loss (after nearly three years and a pregnancy). I can eat all I want at any given sitting. When I was pregnant I was able to eat a large turkey and cheese on a 12" subroll. This far out it is more about the healthy habits taking over and less about the surgery controlling my habits for me.

I wouldn't worry too much as long as you are still on track where you'd like to be and you are making healthy food choices. I count calories to the single digits every day in an attempt to lose the last few pregnancy pounds.

    Great job so far :flowerforyou:

Thanks all I am on track. I still lose though slower. I have issues with milk and ice cream type things too. Really anything high carb puts me to sleep. And that's what I mean by issues. I ate a 6" sub tonight and actually went a few bites too far. I should have skipped the last 4-5 bites as I was already full and struggling to get it in. For the first year this was not an issue. I set an alarm to remind me to eat. I was never hungry, and sometimes still forget to eat. I was at 900 calories just 3 months ago. Now I am up to about 1300-1500 cals a day. That seems like a big jump quick. IDK! just nervous. No weight gain though.

    Thanks again.

Only about 30% of us dump. I had absolutely no issues with weight gain until about the two year mark, then the **** hit the fan and I gained 10 pounds practically overnight. I worked hard to lose it and have maintained since then (5 years out now). Stay diligent. Many people have trouble around the 2-3 year mark.

I am just a year post op last week but had sleve surgery. I have never dumped. There have been times when I ate something really sweet and felt funny but I think it's because I hadn't had it for so long and my body was trying to handle it but not real dumping. I can eat about 2 oz of meat and 1 oz of something else at meals. I have noticed the last 2 months I can eat more but I am working out more too. I still can only hold so much and will get the foamies if I go past that. Alot depends on the texture of the food also and how easy it goes down.
Congrats on your one year anniversary!
