Post your good recipes here. Doesn't have to be birdfood; but, shouldn't be Double Chocolate Caramel Swirled Brownies with Cream Cheese Frosting (unless it is Low Calorie Double Chocolate Caramel Swirled Brownies with Cream Cheese Frosting)! Please add nutritional info if you can or at least number of servings and number of calories per serving.

Charlie, thanks for reminding me! I bought the ingredients for this, now just need to get a tube pan (the one I have is a bunt which they recommend against).0

Do you guys know about Hungry Girl? Most of her recipes are 300 calories or less. She often has low calorie make-overs too. http://www.hungry-girl.com/chew0
-
Yes, she has several books out, too. Check them out at the library or Amazon.
I love salads: Here's two that I have created and eat all the time:
Digestive Health Salad: 3 cups Dole 50/50 mix, 1/4 Cup Planter's Digestive Health Mix (granola, cranberries, pistachios, and almonds in a can), 2 T. Kraft Classic Catalina Dressing, and 2 T. Salemville Amish Blue Cheese Crumbles. 360 Calories.
Asian Inspired Salad: 3 cups Dole 50/50 mix, 28 Blue Diamond Wasabi Soy Almonds, 1 Tangelo, 2 T. Marzetti's Simply Dressed Ginger Sesame Dressing. 340 Calories.
Also, the other day I made a baked sweet potato for lunch in the microwave, added 1 T. of I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Light, and topped with 2 T of the Planter's Digestive Health Mix. 245 Calories. Lots of fiber and potassium.

I'm going to check out the Planter's Digestive Health Mix next time I'm at the market. Love sweet potatoes too.0

Oh, forgot to say, salt and pepper to taste, and I also added chopped almonds (1/8 cup) which made it 185 calories per 1/4 of recipe.0

Lill reminded me about the rotisserie chicken short cut. Also, another friend of mine makes this with canned chicken breast and it is still really good.0

Turkey Melt: 185 calories. A super fast, low calorie and satisfying "emergency meal" (when you have few calories left for dinner, or know you are going out for dinner or lunch so this is the other meal). Orrowheat sandwich thins (100 calories), toasted, with a very light spread of light butter. Oscar Meyer packaged sliced deli turkey, 5 slices, 1/8th cup of low fat shredded mozzarella cheese. Stack the slices on a microwave safe plate, sprinkle over cheese. Microwave for 30 seconds or until cheese is melted. Put turkey/melted cheese on the sandwich thin and chow down!0

Egg Beater Omelet: 115 calories. A super fast, low calorie and satisfying "emergency meal" (when you have few calories left for dinner, or know you are going out for dinner or lunch so this is the other meal). 3/4 cup eat beaters or other egg substitute. 1/8th cup low fat shredded mozzarella cheese. Spray non-stick saute or omelet pan with non-stick spray. Cook egg beaters on medium high, when done on one side flip. Add cheese to one half of omelet, fold over. Enjoy! Great with a microwaved russet potato (5.3 ounces: 100 calories) diced, heated (use same pan) and sprayed with can't believe it's not butter spray, salt and pepper. Eggs and potatoes: 215 calories.0

No Guilt Spaghetti: 31 calories per cup (as opposed to 200 calories per cup for standard spaghetti). A super fast, low calorie and satisfying "emergency meal". Spaghetti Squash half, seeded. Place face down in a shallow microwave safe dish with about an inch of water. Cook according to directions here http://www.kitchentreaty.com/how-to-cook-spaghetti-squash-two-different-ways-in-the-microwave-or-in-the-oven/ Of course everything tastes better baked in the oven but the microwave is much faster. Everyone, even Walmart, carries spaghetti squash. Add 1/2 cup of your favorite pasta sauce (usually 50 - 70 calories per 1/2 cup). This is so low calorie that you can add steamed vegis and chicken.0

Guacomole: I don't really don't use a recipes for guacamole, but I do it this way when I can find the ingredients.
Avocado: 1 just for me. 3 for a group. Mash with fork. I like mine chunky.
Cilantro: I don't like cilantro, but guacamole needs a little. I like to use the cilantro paste in a squeeze tube (find it in produce with the herbs), but if not available, I will use a little fresh.
Chilies: I also like to use the chili paste that is available along side the cilantro paste. If not, I will seed and devein and mince a red chili.
Lime: A squeeze is necessary, or a bigger squeeze if you like.
Red Onion: fine minced (unless making it for my DIL who hates raw onions)
Garlic: a little mashed into a paste or powder. Not too much garlic though and you can leave it out!
So, I taste as I go. Add more of this and less of that. Let's face it. It has avocados. It can't be bad!0 -
Charlie, thanks so much! And I thought I was the only one who didn't like cilantro. Seems so prevalent in Mexican and Asian food. I've been craving guac and all the ingredients are so available right now. What do you eat yours with? Chips are the obvious choice but bet you've found a good alternative.0
-
I don't like cilantro either!0
-
-
I like it with mushrooms, cucumbers, or carrots.
I read somewhere (whether it is true or not) that 30% of the population has a gene that makes cilantro taste like soap. That, to me, is exactly what it tastes like. You can substitute parsley, but I find that the paste in a tube is controllable and you can use just a little to taste like guac, but not like soap! I think it has a little olive oil and other stuff to improve it.0 -
Wow, 30%, I'm really not alone! That's pretty close to a third of the population. I will try it with those things.0
-
I made the pineapple/angel food cake today and it is yummy but really, really sweet. But yummy.0
-
Glad you liked it! It is sweet, but I can do sweet if it also has the tart of the pineapple. Only 160 calories for a 1/12th of cake serving. Oh, coffee, you have to have coffee with sweet.0

I'm thinking that I might make "strawberry angel food bites" with this recipe. Cut the angel food cake in 1" - 2" cubes, add sliced strawberries and whipped cream to each. Or strawberry angel food cake skewers. Cubed angel food cake alternating with strawberry halves. Could drizzle just a bit of chocolate sauce on each.0
-
Oh yeah, but I don't like strawberries much, I'd do raspberries. This would be like a deconstructed triffle, huh? Also, you would want to make the cake in loaf pans rather than a tube to get good cubes.0

Everyone always talks about "breakfast for dinner" and seems we all like it. For me, when in doubt, crack an egg! In case you missed this blog, here are 15 wonderful recipes for a dinner breakfast!:

Oh YUM! Charlie! Love breakfast for dinner. Might have been my mom worn out after a long day but I thought of those breakfast for dinner meals as something fun and special! I'm going to try the Huevos Rancheros Tacos this weekend for sure!0
-
Did you know there is a website "www.ihatecliantro.com" ? To me it tastes metallic. Yet the seeds, coriander, are wonderful.0
-
Yeah me too, didn't taste like soap to me, does taste metallic though. Don't like rosemary either.0

This is as much a question, as a recipe. I went into my favorite coffee shop yesterday to have an iced decaf with a just a little sugar-free french vanilla syrup. I got my drink and went out on their patio, but although it tasted really delicious, it tasted different. I went back in for a second and mentioned this and the barista said he apologized, but had given me the wrong iced coffee. What he had given me was half black coffee, half black tea on ice with 1 1/2 squirts of sugar-free vanilla. He knew this because when he gave my order to someone else, they complained it wasn't what they had ordered so he remembered. I looked this up and apparently you can get this half coffee/half tea over ice mix at Starbucks, too. Has anyone ever had this? I will try this myself as soon as I can get some syrup. It really was so good!0

I will try that Charlie. Does it have a name like a "cambric" or an "arnold palmer"?
Lately I've been microwaving 1% milk (102 calories) or almond milk (30 calories) (vanilla, unsweetened) for 1.45 seconds, then adding a tablespoon of Starbuck's mocha sauce (50 calories). Kind of a grown-up hot chocolate.0 -
I don't think so. Mocha sounds good.0
