South Beach Diet: A Solution for Those on Medication?

Let me explain:

I was recently hospitalized for a suicide attempt, so I was in a psychiatric ward. After telling the doctor how much weight I had gained after taking my Abilify (a mood stabilizer), he strongly recommended the SBD. He said himself that most people gain a ton of weight (for me it was 20+ pounds) from the Abilify and that he has seen miracles.

Anyone who has been on medication that makes them constantly hungry (like mine have) had success with SBD in particular in reversing the weight gain trend? I have heard it's a filling diet.

I guess I just want to know if the SBD is filling, even when you are on medication that greatly increases your appetite. I'm so sick of having this weight.

Thank you in advance!

    Hi!
Well gosh. I'm not sure if SB is the diet for everyone, but I know for me, if I follow the guidelines pretty well, it's VERY satisfying. I lost about 30 pounds using a variation of it (the book wasn't out, the diet wasn't official, I just heard about the principles) about 14 years ago (and kept it off). I was never hungry, as long as I had some beans with the earlier days, and ate enough throughout.

It's not really "low carb" as you eat lots of vegetables, some fruit, some whole grains after the OPTIONAL phase 1.
I found it a pretty educational experience. It's influenced me all these years later!

    Good luck!
