So I did a metabolic efficiency test yesterday and was introduced to the world of MET. Currently, I basically burn all carb at the level of intensity that I race at and train at. My goal is to at least be burning some fat. If even 20% of my energy was coming from fat I'd be in a much better spot I'd guess.

So a big part of it is diet change and I'm still learning what exactly I need to do there but it seems fairly straightforward. The bigger question I have is around training sessions themselves. I've seen some things that indicate I should be training around my crossover values and to be honest...that's completely unrealistic. My crossover has to be in the 120s and a steady effort for me is in the 150s or 160s if its really hot out (and its now summer).

So I guess my question here is am I wasting my time? If I can't train at or below my crossover, will dietary changes have enough of an effect that I'll start moving that value to the right?

i have no idea what any of this means... what kind of intensity are you training at? i've never heard of crossover before.

It's not easy to do what you're talking about. It takes a ton of patience. I find that you need to know your zones and be a slave to the data. In a 5 zone system do A TON of work in Z2 running. A bunch of work in the top of Z2/bottom of Z3 on the bike. Do a lot of your base work in the morning and fasted. The more efficient you get aerobically the faster you'll get and you'll change where your crossover is.
