I've read various articles on the carb flu. Is it possible for the carb flu to make you physically ill. (IE. throwing up)?? I kept my carbs to <60 g yesterday and got so deathly ill last night, thought I was going to die. I was so pleased at the end of the day to see how well I did. I was truly impressed with myself. Not to pat myself on the back, but I am a HUGE CARBOHOLIC.

It's probably going to be harder on you the more drastically you cut out the carbs. Think of it as a detox. You don't HAVE to suffer, but if you take on a mindset of the suffering being the conversion to a better functioning body, it can make it mentally better. Your body is lying to you right now, like an addict making excuses for why the change isn't going to work. This is where most people give up. Stick with it, and earn the gold stars!

Oh, I am sticking with it, just not sure as I didn't see throwing up as an side effect of carb flu. I want the best functioning body I've ever had. And if this is what I need to do to get it, then I will. I am so committed to this. I actually just emailed my boyfriend info about this group and told him that he should try this. We both want to get healthy. Weight loss is just a bonus.

The reason they call it the carb flu is because it resembles most or all of the symptoms of the flu for some folks, so yes, Cari, I could easily see throwing up in the mix. Essentially what @glossbones said above - your body is detoxing of the carbs. I'm sure your personal situation (smaller stomach, etc.) can complicate this. If you don't get a moderate relief of symptoms by upping your electrolytes in the best way your body can absorb (I'd recommend any liquid stuff you can get your hands on), after a day or two, you might go to the doctor. Honestly, the carb flu can last minutes/hours/days or not at all for some people (I'm hoping you're not one of the ones in for weeks!). I'm far more prone to sinus issues and headaches, so my flu took that form, and I didn't even realize it at first....

Let us know if we can help with more specifics. I'd suggest broth and maybe some homemade electrolyte stuff - adding lite salt to your water, etc... Sending hugs!

Thanks Carly. Much appreciated. Didn't think detoxing from carbs would be so severe and I'd be so sensitive to it. Now I know. I did add the mag citrate liquid into the mix last night and some sea salt to my food. I need to find the right balance for me. At least I know I am doing something right if I am detoxing from carbs.
