frustrated with "losing" calories to fat

So I've been paleo/Primal for 3.5 years and lost about 50 lbs. I started creeping up again and thought I just wasn't eating "clean" enough so I did a whole 30. I lost a couple of pounds but gained it back in the week following my whole 30 (still doing paleo). That's when I decided to join MFP to see what was happening with my calories. I saw that it was eating between 60-80% of my calories from fat. I have had to cut WAY back on fat to manage to eat as little calories as I need to lose weight. But I'm not happy about it lol!
Tonight we BBQed and I had ribeye steak and it just takes up so many more calories than the same amount of chicken and I don't feel full enough. Do others find this happening as well or are you able to eat high fat and be satisfied?

Without seeing your diary, it's hard telling what's going on, but in general, you don't have to fear fat. You might be light on protein, though, so double check that. Also look into how many starchy vegetables and fruits you're eating. Typically, the higher carb and higher fat stuff don't mix when it comes to satiety.0

I stay pretty much at 55% fat and 25% protein and I'm rarely hungry.
Tonight's dinner was 8oz of NY Strip (the rest may be part of breakfast), 9 asparagus sprears, and half a Sweet potato. When I was in weight loss mode I wouldn't have had the sweet potato. I would have ate more veg instead.0 -
What are your macros? It's hard to give advice without seeing your diary, sorry.
As a general rule, I wouldn't stress your fat consumption so much, unless your carbs are high....
Try cutting out starches and eating more vegetables. When I have steak, I usually have at leave 1-2 cups of vegetables and a salad as a side.... keeps me full and the calories in the vegetables are negligible.0 -
Basic question from newb to Paleo
Can you ignore calories on Paleo?
I love steak but if I eat a huge one it is almost my entire day of calories
So I eat a smaller steak and room for something more filling too
This is not a CICO type question with no sense of balance in macro mix. I know that often starts a crazy amount of fighting on the main form
Just a friendly question

You're not in the main forums here
calories count for all types of eating, if you are trying to lose weight. with keto you naturally feel full longer on less food. I guess you could technically ignore calories if you are in tune with your body enough and eat only when hungry. you will likely still be eating in a deficit even without counting or tracking. I find it easier to track though, I like to see the data for trends
(sorry I know your question is about paleo not keto, I'm not as familiar with how paleo works but I assume its similar)
ETA: I was totally in the wrong group, thought I was in keto group when posting that. too early for me0 -

That depends on your goals. For rapid weight loss, nope gotta keep an eye on those cals. For general health not so important so long as your energy levels are high and you are satiated with what you are eating.
For me the macros are much more important than the cals. If I hit my protein goal, stay under my carb limit, and include plenty of healthy fats, I feel great and maintain my current weight.professionalHobbyist wrote: »Basic question from newb to Paleo

That is an entirely reasonable way to plan out meals. I do the same

Ok!
I get the full feeling.
I feel more full eating veggies and some days make myself eat close to target
I wanted to try Paleo because it made sense. I knew sugar didn't like me, nor low fat health cookies or pasta.
It just happened to work well for me.
I do eat a calorie deficit and good mix of foods now with a long term sustained weight loss
Thank you amandalutwick for allowing a brief question in your thread
Much love to the forum
Hugs for everyone!
