Found my waist that is! Yay!
I went swimming today and happened to see myself in the mirror. I generally have avoided that but whoa! I have a waist again. Who's a sexy thang?? Un-hun!!
AND!!!
I unofficially broke 200lbs this week! I can't wait until my official weigh in at the Beasts house on Monday morning! OOOOOHHHHHH I so hope I see 199lbs!! that would just tickle me pink!
I was kind of tired of meat, meat, meat this week, but that, that makes it all worth it!!
It's working. It's really working. (tears of joy and relief streaming down face) 38 years of being sick and overweight and I am finally seeing reliable change! It wasn't my fault after all. And a lot of the success is due to this magnificent group. I steered very clear of online groups in the past. Likely because I had only ever run into things like the main forums. But here. You are all helping change lives and today it is mine!
Hahaaaa!~ What a glorious day!
OH and I got asked to join an open water swim group! Thanks to this diet I've been able to start swimming again with my goal being the Olympic triathlon. I was never strong enough however to even thing of joining the open water swims. Today one of the members (who has been watching my facebook posts of swimming progress) actually asked if I would like to come and try it!!!
Boooyah!

Wonderful set of victories there! Thank you for sharing your inspiring news.
I, too, am interested in making it into a triathlon one day. I will have to get some private swim lessons, as I have never been able to get the right stroke/breathing rhythm down to swim laps, and I don't know how people do that cool underwater turn-push off the wall thing. Keep us posted on your swim group adventures!0 -
hey there! Well, the nice thing about triathlon is you won't have to learn that neat flip underwater thing because it's out in a lake! ;-P Most triathlon people I know don't know how to do that.
When I was learning to swim, I totally couldn't afford lessons. Google "total immersion" swimming or check out the blogs for "swim smooth" or "feel for the water". This is the best method for triathlon swimming. I'm not the only one who says that, most triathlon places will recommend this method. It basically teaches you how to swim with the least amount of effort as the goal on the swim leg is usually just to get it done and get out of the water with you heart rate as low as possible with lots left in the gas tank for the rest of the journey. I would highly recommend checking that out because they start you off with simply floating. Really basic and work your way up so you don't have to know how-to-breathe-when kind of thing. But if you can't float, it's going to be really difficult to swim effectively, etc.
I did buy the total immersion book and it was worth the money. Now, after much practice, I do notice a HUGE difference and as long as I stay zen and relaxed, I can probably swim pretty far. It feels amazing when it all finally clicks. If you're going to pay, I'd suggest going to an actually triathlon swim club and specifically one that will video tape you and look at your stroke that way too.
HTH
But you can totally get there! Totally, totally! My first triathlon was a tri-a-try distance. The swim was 200m in thigh deep water. Most peole just walked the swim! Another one I did was a shorter distance so it was in the pool.0 -
Great job G! I hope this is only just a start and that it propels to more weight losses and NSV's!

Thanks so much for the info gsp90x! I hadn't thought about it being an open-water event, and of course is, so I'm sure the swimming part is quite different from a lap pool. I'll be sure to check out total immersion, etc!0

Total Immersion is awesome!! My DH is a former Canadian Masters medalist and he loves open water too (now he works too much to train during the summer). Total Immersion has a great training program if you can get to some of their workshops.0
