As a chocovore, I approve of your experiment. Let us know how it goes. :)

You know what I do when I make Scotch eggs ? I use ground turkey since there is little shrinkage compared to pork. I use a recipe I found on Dr Axe's site for turkey breakfast sausage, so I control the spices I put in. The turkey works really well. I've never bought sausage meat to wrap around my eggs, I just use ground meat with spices. I love them cold too, and spread mayo on my turkey scotch eggs.

Now I have to make some...

@wabmester @Kitnthecat I love how supportive everyone is. I don't think I would have gotten this far without this group.

I feel the same way...thank you everyone ! This truly has changed my life ! Not only trying keto but having support of people who are also in the same situations and know what I am talking about...it is huge.

I hope you will get back on track soon @KetoGirl83 !

Feeling better today, thank you everyone.

Perhaps it was just some discharge or a few days with not enough food or that yesterday I made sure to eat before going to bed and that helped with the blood sugars (normal fasting numbers today). I'll make sure to eat more and if the dizziness etc returns I will "supplement" with dark chocolate and see if that helps. I'm still very tired but if the worst has passed (after, curiously, a very short and not very restful night of difficult sleep) I'll keep doing ZC as before and the chocolate experiment will have to wait. The Scotch eggs however are in my to-do-soon list!

re: scotch eggs, this is the sorry headline of the day (actually last week): http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/shopping-and-consumer-news/11663553/Scotch-eggs-branded-junk-food-and-confiscated-from-childrens-packed-lunches.html

The article has links to the history of scotch eggs, if you are hungry :)

That is insane! Can schools do that now?!?

That is awful. If the school has an issue with what a child is bringing for lunch they should talk to the parents about it instead of confiscating their food. No kid should be shamed like that.

This is in the UK, but if the parents were aware of the policy in detail and chose to send things anyway, that is on them. However, I would be bringing doctor's notes and all manner or proof that they are idiots if my child's food choices were negated this way. It isn't like it was an entire lunch of Twinkies. Or something. What if that child had a seizure condition and were on a doctor required diet? I would sue the school. But it would also be mine own fault if I did not petition the school with my own documentation to prove their policy wrong. But if there are no set terms in the policy as to what is "healthy" then this is absolutely wrong.

Teachers, while hopefully well educated, if they have not taken a full course in nutritional education covering all forms of healthy foods, should not be randomly deciding the health value of foods. There are so many requirements for so many conditions and people...

KetoGirl - I had similar symptoms last year and it turned out I was very dehydrated although I drank 10-12 cups of water a day and supplemented with magnesium and potassium citrate. It scared me because the doctor said my kidneys were failing. I stopped eating ZC. My kidneys improved but I stopped losing weight. I hope you feel better soon.

@toadqueen Thank you. I tested kidney function some months ago and all was ok but I'll make certain to repeat the tests with the new batch. I'm feeling better today so I hope the worst is in the past. Sometimes I feel so great that I neglect control of blood sugar during the day or spend too many hours without food and don't check BG and, as a diabetic, I can't do that.

If it's any consolation, I had blood testing after 6 solid months of ZC and my kidney function was perfectly normal. I also eat a lot more protein than than most people. I'll get it done when my doctor gives me another set of blood tests. I don't expect anything to have changed. I don't know anyone eating this way, long term, who has had kidney problems develop because of it.

I forgot that I was also taking a diuretic - duh! I am eating keto again because of food sensitivities and it is my preference. I am just low carb not zero carb.

@zerocarb, are you type 1 or type 2 diabetic? I used to be type 2 and got my sugars under control within 2 weeks of zero carb eating 4 1/2 years ago. I no longer test myself and my fasting blood sugar was recently 74 when tested by my doctor.

I am so sorry for any confusion I may have caused. It sounded like when I was dehydrated and the nephrologist insisted it was both my keto WOE AND diuretic usage that caused it.

No confusion, just care, thank you. I'm type2 and my BG is usually normal except after fasting for more than 6-8 hours (night or day). By now I take with a large grain of salt any dietetic advice not supported by test results. I'll have a dietitian appointment next week and I'm fully prepared to smile sweetly, lie if I must, and get prescriptions for lab tests.

@Kitnthecat!!! Can you post the link to that or tell me how to make it? I've always wanted to do that. Before keto/zc I used to take the meat out of the sausage casings and just eat it like ground meat. Now I don't because I can't find any without sugar or wheat or oat hull fiber (good grief)

I used to work in a bakery and they made sausage rolls (sausage meat wrapped in pastry) They were AH May ZING! I stole the recipe but have since lost it! :( I probably didn't keep track of it because the recipe made 20lbs of sausage meat at a time!!!!

Agreed !! the support of people in this group is second to none. When it comes to food, I feel normal here. I feel there are probably a large percentage of people who have experienced the same craziness surrounding food as I have. A kind of crazy you can't explain to someone who hasn't lived it. Not only do you understand but most of us are finding relief of the crazy. :)

    A good place to be.

Here's the recipe @gsp90x. I started making it since I had no idea what spices to put in a sausage mixture. And prepared sausage can have a lot of garbage in it as you know.

    http://draxe.com/recipe/turkey-breakfast-sausage/

Modify the recipe according to your taste. I don't put the onion or Mary's organic crackers in it anymore while doing keto, but I have put almond meal in there to firm it up a bit. The mixture will be squishy. You want to be able to cover the eggs completely, but it will be tricky until they are browned carefully, then they will be easier to handle. I finish them in the oven.

I've tried this with ground pork, but the pork shrank too much and uncovered my dear little eggs ! I have not tried beef, somehow doesn't seem right. Happy cooking !

This makes me so irritated!!! We should not have to "jump through hoops" like a damned circus in order to get proper medical care, treatment, and testing. I think it is about time we organized a world-wide revolt!!

@KnitOrMiss I so agree! This is part of a process that started when my usual doc referred me for bariatric surgery after I was diagnosed diabetic. I have no intention of doing the bariatric but I do hope they'll pay for cosmetic if I need it when I'm back at a healthy weight so I don't want to create too many waves. Last appointment was an endocrinologist and it was a disaster so now I'm on my best behaviour. :innocent:
