New & thrilled!

Hi everyone, I am brand new here and brand new to keto dieting. I've been on the diet since Tuesday and I am really excited about it, I feel like I can do this!

I've been doing 10 minutes of sculpting pilates and most days I go for a 40 minute stroller walk down a hill with my babies (when the weather allows). This week I've also done 15 minutes of HIIT twice right after waking up, before eating anything.

I don't know if or how much weight I've lost, but I imagine something is happening because I feel smaller and my jeans are fitting looser.

Also, something I've noticed since last night: funny sweet taste in my mouth. Now I've heard this to be a symptom of ketosis but I don't know if I'm just imagining this.

I was hoping someone could tell me if I'm doing this right, if I am on the right path as far as my diet? I should add I've been making a conscious effort to drink more water.

Thank you in advance and thank you for reading!

Your exercise sounds great but Keto is more about diet for being in ketosis. You can use urine ketostix to see if you test positive. You get them from a drug store. Blood ketone testing is the most accurate but can be pricey. Anyhow, unless I can see your diet I really can't comment on how well you are doing. My recommendations are to stick to your calorie limit (somewhere above your BMR and below your TDEE) and keep your macros as spot on as possible. 65% Fat, 25% Protein, 10% Carbs is what I follow.

Best of luck to you. Keto has changed my life!

Thanks for all the good advice!

gmansmom2, I'm going to try keeping those macros. My food diary is set to public now. :) And did you lose all that weight on keto? Amazing!

I'm new to Keto too, and I'm excited about it! I've been tinkering with low carb for a couple weeks, so this should be interesting!

If you're going to purchase ketostix's then I recommend you check at the pharmacy section at Wal-Mart. Just as someone behind the counter if you cant find them.

Wal-Mart sells them for $5~6 (50 count). Any other drug store will run you $15+ (50 count)

Noticed you had 7 servings of heavy cream in snack section. Good idea but im sure it's not quite filling...

Id remove it and add in for a dinner meal like a small taco salad (ground beef 4 ounces) with lettuce, sour cream, and shredded cheese.

MFP is having technical difficulties and diaries are looking wonky today but I think you are on the right track. I would increase my fat and maybe decrease the protein depending on how much you are working out. Too much protein will convert to glucose on this diet. Try adding in avocado and macadamia nuts if you can. Too much dairy makes me stall so between the cream and cheese you will have to see how it effects you.

I suggest you go in and adjust your macros in your settings. I can send you instructions if you want.

Yes, I have lost most of my weight on keto. I started late October, about 6 weeks into my journey. I am almost 8 months on it. I will never go back. My life/ health has improved in so many ways.

    Best of luck!

I think your diary looks great! Nice job. I wouldn't change the cream - that high fat approach can really help keep your appetite suppressed, and your protein levels are already good. One suggestion is to increase your water consumption to 12 glasses a day instead of the default 8. For me, I retain water at 8 glasses - I need 12 or more a day to lose.

    Nice job!

    Thanks for the responses guys!

Those seven servings of heavy cream were actually for a chocolate mousse recipe I read from kiramaniac lol  I was afraid because it seemed my fat and protein levels were too close.

gmansmom2, I would appreciate some help with that.

kiramaniac, many thanks! I've been trying to drink at least 10 glasses everyday, but will aim for more.

About exercise I'm continuing the stroller walks, stopped HIIT, now doing squats and pushups, and repeating the 10 minute sculpting pilates as many times as I remember throughout the day

One question if I may, is it ok to sometimes indulge on keto-friendly foods? Is there such thing as too many chicken wings?

In my opinion there is no such thing as "too many chicken wings". Just like there is no such thing as "too much bacon".

    Nicely said Laura!!!

Just make sure the wings don't have any breading. One of my favorite dinner options at a local restaurant is Garlic Parmesan wings with a wedge salad. The wings are bathed in some sort of garlic butter concoction. Yummy!

During the early days of keto, DO indulge in keto friendly foods. Especially if you feel that you might be tempted for non-keto foods, if you don't do this. I used to carry around pre-cooked bacon, almonds and dark chocolate in my purse to help ensure I didn't get weak. And I always have keto-friendly snacks at home. Lily's Chocolate is a current favorite. "So Delicious" Coconut Milk Ice Cream Bars, and homemade Coconut Custard are others. I'm never really tempted to eat something non-keto, because I have so many good keto items ready and available.

Even after a year, I will overeat keto friendly choices at any family or church event just to stave off the temptations of joining in on the sweet stuff.

Oh my husband makes scrumptious deep fried chicken wings - no batter - and tosses them crispy hot out of the fryer in a yummy spice concoction, so delicious! I skipped the sauces and ate them with a drizzle of plain hot sauce.

That's just mean. You can't go around giving half-details. We REQUIRE the full recipe. :-)
