PiYo question

I'm in the middle of my current workout, Jillian michaels body revolution and am trying to think ahead to my next workout adventure! I was talking to a friend about exercise and she mentioned her beach body coach recommend PiYo to her. I've never tried it, but it sounds/looks fun and different so it peaked my interest. So here's my question: will doing PiYo as my workout be enough to lose weight (along with calories of course) or is it mostly used for toning/sculpting? I would like to lose about 30 lbs but would love to tone up too. I checked threads in mfp for this but I guess I didn't really get answers. They were mostly talking about whether or not they like PiYo workouts. Any thoughts on using this for weight loss?

Always keep separate these 2 things.

Diet is for weight loss, if done right just fat loss, done wrong includes muscle mass loss.

Exercise is for healthy heart and transforming body, it can support weight loss being fat only, or including muscle mass. It's side effect is usually water weight gain though.

The only thing exercise has to do with diet and weight loss is increasing how much you burn daily.
Therefore when you eat less, it's more than if you did not do the exercise.
That may help you adhere better to the diet, which then results in fat loss.

So the question is not will PiYo be enough to lose weight - but rather will it help you burn enough to allow you to eat enough that you will adhere to the plan?

There really is no such thing as toning outside fat loss. You lose fat, you expose the muscle underneath.
How you got that muscle there looking strong doesn't matter to a certain point.
If it is not hard on the muscle, no need for it to get stronger.
If it leaves you out of breath but muscle is not really tired - it's cardio.

@heybales is completely right. For lack of a better analogy, abs are made in the gym and revealed in the kitchen. Now to go right at the question, I think PiYo, being pilates based, should be one hell of a workout! Really focusing on core strength which is a good thing and should leave you sweating. I have done a couple of beach body programs, most of which are cardio or muscular endurance and this one is seems to be very similar.
