Happy Accident

Groceries are slim pickins in my house right now, as we are trying to empty the fridge/freezer completely before going on vacation next week. I thought I had enough chicken stock in the fridge, went to pour it in my mug, and only had a couple of tablespoons. Been feeling pretty achy today and hadn't had any broth yet. In desperation I made a can of chicken noodle soup, and put it through a strainer to just catch the broth. Yummy! Finally a chicken broth I like!

That sounds yummy! I haven't had the gumption to drink straight broth yet (mostly because the varieties I've found all seem to have MSG in them), but I do enjoy the soup part of chicken noodle soup (the chicken and noodles, not so much). I'll have to try that.0

I had some bullion cubes in the cupboard, and last night I took my leftover shrimp, sausage and peppers & onions from dinner the night before and put it in the broth and made a gumbo soup.
I never thought to look to see if those have MSG.0 -

Kitchen Basics has one with no MSG available in the US. That's what I get.
Yeah, it has honey, but it's so barely there and has no carbs or discernible sweet taste.

Just remember that cooking the noodles in the broth will release starches, so you will get some carbs this way. I made some gorgeous bone broth over the weekend, but I'm terrified to drink it for some silly reason. It smells absolutely amazing...
And I love keeping all my bones and veggie trimmings in the freezer until I have enough to make stock! I use that stock in EVERYTHING. And I toss it all in together - turkey, beef, pork, and chicken bones together. I have never worried about separating them...0 -
I don't buy meat with bones in it. I don't know what to do with it. (Former vegetarian here, although at 38 that shouldn't be an excuse anymore.)0

A lot of the pork chops I get have bones - or Chicken Leg Quarters that I got a ton of on sale once - or I buy the rotisserie chickens once they are marked down to $2.48! And I roasted some turkey legs around the holidays. If in down, roast it!0 -

ME TOO! Almost. Technically not vegetarian since I ate fishies which are most definitely NOT vegetables.
But yeah, for 26 years, I ate no other meats.
It kind of squicks me out still to deal with uh...what did they call it...the "structure" in meats, so I often just get boneless cuts.
However...
After trying a bone-in pork chop, I have to say it tastes WAY better than the boneless ones.
Rotisserie chicken also tastes good, but breaking it down still makes me feel nasty.

Oh, @Teneko, I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!!0 -
And me, too, until the last 5 years or so...heck, maybe the last 3. My ex would not eat anything with a BONE or if he could tell that it used to be part of an animal, and I was married to his moronic self for almost 17 years... But I'm all about googling and recipes. If I can find a recipe, I can make anything - including very NOT low-carb things like homemade fondant from scratch and topsy-turvy cakes. There is mighty power in recipes...and now with youtube tutorials, there's not much to avoid.
You can get chicken leg quarters in a 10 pound bag for $6-$10 depending on store. Literally, I rub them with a little olive oil eat, salt and pepper the skins, shove some butter under the skins if I am feeling fancy, and roast them at 350 until the skins are super crispy - usually around 45 minutes. No muss, no fuss. If I'm feeling really lazy, I won't even oil them, just S&P.... Easy starter plan!0
