Hello all!

This is my first day EM2WL and so far I'm loving it! A lot more happier and a lot more energy. My only question is this: when eating more it DOES matter what foods you eat, correct?

With CICO it doesn't. If you eat ten Snickers bars you're good as long as you are eating at a calorie deficit or you can burn it off through cardio. That idea doesn't apply to EM2WL right?

I thought so. When it comes to my diet though I want to be 100% sure :) Thanks for your input!

It's still CICO though, so not sure what you mean by it doesn't matter with CICO.
You have an incorrect concept on that.

As far as strictly weight loss is concerned - it doesn't matter.
But be ready for an unhealthy body no matter what if you don't get nutrition in. That will eventually effect you, same as eating too extreme a deficit will eventually effect you.

You are taking a reasonable deficit compared to an extreme deficit - that's all. Still CICO.
Except you are trying not to change the CO part by eating so low on the CI part.

In fact, you'll have an easier time filling your nutritional needs now, and will still need some calories to reach goal.

If anything, with a reasonable deficit, you can have more of the things you enjoy that may not be "clean" or "good for you" - whatever that may mean to you.

It's why many follow the 80/20 method.
80% nutritional food to meet those requirements.
20% what you enjoy that may not fit the 80%.

I guess I was asking if I could lose weight eating 1800 calories worth of junk or is there only weight loss when you eat 1800 calories worth of clean/healthy foods.

I agree on the part about making it easer to fill my nutritional needs. It was almost impossible trying to fit all the protein I wanted in a 1480 cal day.

Would EM2WL still apply for muscle gain?

Yes, you could still lose weight eating 1800 calories of junk food.
Same as you could eat your maintenance level of calories of junk food.
But as mentioned, if constant, eventually the body will be under stress, and continued stress is bad for fat weight loss. Or if eating at maintenance, you'll eventually just get sick from vitamin/mineral deficiency. It'll take longer than if you were eating at extreme deficit of course.

Would EM2WL still apply for muscle gain?
Yes compared to other diets - not really going to happen while in a diet.

Muscle gain happens when a newbie lifting and enough fat to lose - otherwise not going to happen during a deficit.

Now - this method being a reasonable deficit, it means whatever gains could happen in a deficit being newbie could happen for longer, compared to eating at extreme deficit.

But it's going to be slow either way, not at all like the actual muscle mass gain from eating in surplus.

There really is nothing magical or different with this method than other things you have perhaps heard about, hopefully accurately about.
It's more about the negatives aren't going to happen, meaning you keep losing and only fat weight, and hopefully adhere better and reach goal faster in the long run.

It's all starting to make sense now!!! Thank you so much :) I see you posting a lot in this group and just wanna say that you are awesome for caring enough to help others achieve their goals.
