Restrictions Driving Me Batty

Bacon grease is yummy. I am not eating pork yet. I sometimes make my own ghee from unsalted butter. You just simmer it on a medium heat for a few minutes and strain out the brown residue. Do you like seafood? It is not as fatty as pork or beef but makes a nice change too. I cannot have salmon or shrimp but I try to eat some seafood a few times per week.0

I like seafood, but hubby doesn't so seafood is mostly restricted to lunch.0

I try to reframe things into things that *I* want to eat and things that my *body* wants me to eat. There are some things, like dairy, that I want to eat all the time. My body is not a huge fan of dairy and it will let me know about it. It doesn't mean I don't choose to accept the consequences, from time to time.
What really helps me is thinking about the reasons I shouldn't want to eat something. Yes, I could have a big salad. But, it will upset my stomach and I'll feel bloated and miserable for hours. Is the salad good enough to be worth that? Not really. Cheese is great tasting. But, I'll have a slightly disturbed stomach and risk some constipation if I have too much. I'll also see it on the scale for the next week. Is that cost worth it? {Sadly, I often feel that it is. My wife just made fun of me yesterday for having cream cheese layered between my burgers not less than 24 hours after I swore I intended to cut out dairy.}
It's a daily thing. Please be patient with yourself and don't give up. It's not like anyone else suddenly figured this all out and was perfect at sticking to it.0 -
Twibbly, I can't even imagine how frustrating this is for you. . I hope you and your chiro can get this figured out. I am glad he is being so helpful. xoxo0

When I left carbs cold turkey Oct 2014 and did cut out most of my pain from arthritis I now view it as NO restrictions. Eating for Live vs. an early and very painful death has changed my view on the subject. I look at the good things I am gaining now vs. the bad things I left behind.
After nine months of straight LCHF eating I think I am beyond my active carb addiction but as with any addiction in can come back many times worse if I went back to the old ways of thinking about food.
@Twibbly even at 64 I learn more about Low Carb High Fat eating daily. In my mind I was facing certain Cancer if I started the Enbrel injections and LCHF cut much of the pain and freed me from Enbrel potential side effects. I had many false starts during Aug-Sept 2014. It was mastering this eating lifestyle as an example to our 17 year old kids that drove me to do it. Now if/when they develop active Ankylosing Spondylitis they know there is a way to escape to physical deformities and pain. They have watched me regain much of my health and re-lose 50 pounds eating like a carb free eating pig when hungry.
You are on the right track and you have time to get it all figured out and put into practice so give yourself the time it takes. There is nothing that works like LCHF that I have tried over the last 40 years of dieting that works for me.0 -
Thanks, y'all.
I think part of my problem is that I can't see an endpoint. I don't have any idea what I'll look like, what I'll be able to do, or if I'll ever be able to lighten up on the restrictions, or if it's just going to keep getting stricter and stricter until I become a breathatarian. I think I'm letting myself get stressed and depressed instead of focusing on enjoying the process.0 -
Dont stress yourself about it. Take your time and eliminate one thing at a time for at least 2 weeks, at least, before adding it back. Think about all the yummy things you CAN eat....nothing guaranteed to make you get put off and stray than feeling deprived.
As to not being able to see an end point....dont look! Lol. Give yourself a mini goal and celebrate when you get there regardless of whether its a weight loss, pain you find has gone or food you know you can add in! I have gone down to 98kg..first goal cos thats what I was 2 years ago. Then 95kg because its 15stone and it meant I'm nearly in the 14's. Then 93 because thats what I weighed for years and under 92 , which I am now because I cant remember the last time I weighed this little. My next goal is under 91 because then I have lost 10% of my body weight. After that..under 90 means I'm in the 80's and under 88 means I drop out from 'obese' to just 'overweight'and it's in the 13's. All mini goals but meaningful to me and I will keep going on until I'm happy whether its 85kg or 75....although that isnt going to be likely I dont think...who knows...4 months ago I didnt think I would weigh this so....
Keep us posted as to how to do...we can all celebrate with you!0
