Ugh! I think I'm getting a cold. I got my flu shot a week ago, so I'm hoping it's not that, although I think it's too soon for it to have taken effect. My workout buddy has been ill with the flu since Thursday, and I saw her the day before, so there may have been some exposure. Today my head feels stuffy and aches a little, and my throat is scratchy. I may also have a low-grade fever. I really don't have time to be sick this week!0
-
Oh, no, everyone's getting sick! Pam - hope you feel better soon.0
-
Maryanne--It is understandable that you would not feel the best since Nikki died and that eating correctly would not be the upmost importance while dealing with the loss.
I had a Lean Cuisine pizza and veggies for dinner.
I work tomorrow.0 -
Off to work again. Had the Kellogg's flatbread egg sandwich for breakfast. I keep a box of Pure Protein meal bars in my work bag so one will be lunch along with some grapes.0
-
Jean - you really are getting back on track! Good for you!
I'm planning to have whole wheat pancakes for breakfast and then get to work. I have one project in particular I need to get done today and tomorrow so all the billing can be on this month. I hate explaining to people that no, the bill you got isn't all of it because I wasn't done.

Maryanne--I had one of those LC black box meals last night along with the veggies. It definitely did not satisfy me like the regular LC meals, so I found myself in the peanut butter jar last night. So much for a good start.
Flash flood alert has been issued for some areas near us. Those tiny streams can't hold all the water in a big deluge of non-stop rain.
A friend and I are going to Branson in May. Now, I have ads for hotels in Branson.0 -
DH decided to sell one of his snow blowers. He cleaned it up, tuned it up, and set it out front chained to the mail box. Our mailman bought it. I kid you not! Now DH is having seller's remorse. He's afraid he should have kept it as a backup. LOL!
I'm hoping to get back on track today. I've been busy getting out Halloween decorations (yep, jumping the gun) to take my mind off all the stressful stuff in life.
Tomorrow I have to go to the vet to pick up the raffle mailing (a lot of the volunteers pick up their boxes and drop them off at the vet) so I'm taking Lola. Luckily she is tiny so I don't need the huge carrier which is still sitting in my van unassembled after taking Nikki last week. It needs cleaned up and some new fasteners. Apparently they aren't made any more so I'm hoping to find a used one to get fasteners from.

I have a very stressful few days. We went to the ER Sunday because my husband was very short of breath. We thought it was part of the respiratory bug he's been fighting. They started treating for a cardiac condition and they were right. He'd had a serious heart attack. He's in CICU in stable condition but still very ill. I haven't been able to check in much during this but I'll come by when I can.0
-
Helene, I'm so sorry! When DH had his heart attack two years ago I well remember how stressful it was. Hugs and prayers for you both. Please try to take care of yourself, too.
My cold has never really materialized. I'm thinking now it might be allergies. I wake every morning with a scratchy throat and nasal congestion, but it improves after I get upright. I know ragweed levels are exceptionally high right now, so apparently I'm reacting to that.
Hello to Jean and Maryanne. Stay well and dry!0 -
Oh, no, Helene! I'll be thinking about both of you and hoping for a full recovery. Thank goodness you went to the ER! How terrifying! Pam's right, take care of you, too.
Pam - Nasacort has changed my life. I used to wake up not only congested but with severe headaches. No more. Raising the head of the bed helped but not as much as the drugs. My BIL told me the secret to avoiding nose bleeds. Instead of following the directions, point the nozzle off to the side toward your ear.0 -
I'm heading to the vet today to pick up the raffle mailing. I have an appointment for Lola at the same time. Hopefully we're beating the big storm headed our way!0
-
Helene - thinking about you this morning!0
-
Maryanne...I'm happy to say he's doing better. He was sitting in a chair yesterday for 40 minutes and ate a little bit of dinner. I didn't know about Pam's husband's attack so it was helpful to read her comments. And the outlook is so much better than it was Sunday.
BTW, I'm eating a new Special K flatbread sandwich has spinach in it. it made me think of you. It's not bad but maybe a little salty. I made me think of your EB Florentine.0 -
So glad to hear that your DH is improving! Are any procedures or surgeries planned at this point? Fortunately, my DH had a very mild episode brought on by over exertion combined with dehydration. His arteries were deemed "as clear as a newborn's", which is a real miracle, considering his diet. He now takes a medication to make his heartbeat stronger and a cholesterol drug, but otherwise his life is pretty much unchanged, except for more frequent checkups with his PCP and cardiologist. He also has to carry nitroglycerin with him at all times as a rescue medication, but so far that bottle remains unopened. Fingers crossed that it remains unopened forever!
I just got home from getting my hair colored and a haircut. I ran by two grocery stores on my way home because wouldn't you know that the first and largest store didn't have a key ingredient for the appetizer I plan to make for. Party I'm attending on Saturday night. The second store had what I needed and while I was in there I remembered that I needed a bottle of wine for the party as well, so it turned out to be a good thing that I stopped there. It wasn't out of the way, just an extra stop. Then I raced home, put away the groceries, and restyled my hair because I never like the way my stylist does it. She does great color and haircuts, but I always hate how she styles it. Now I'm going to eat a quick lunch, change clothes, and head to the library for my volunteer shift.
Have a good afternoon everyone and try to stay dry if you're in the area with storms.0 -
Helene - I'm SO glad to read your update! I hope he continues to do well and improve!
I do miss the EB Florentine. Now I'm waiting to see if my local store restocks the cheese. Everyone around here sells the Southwestern, which luckily isn't very spicy, but still my least favorite.
Pam - LOL about restyling your hair. Been there, done that!
Jean - I had weight control oatmeal with raisins for breakfast! I had a coupon for the instant steel cut so got a box of that as well. Less protein but I keep reading "eat steel cut" so thought I'd try it.0 -
I'm up, breakfast next on the agenda.
Lola was SO good at the vet yesterday. We decided to wait until mid November and combine a dental with lab work and vaccinations. She immediately went behind the stove when we got home (one of her hidey holes) but she didn't stay too long.
DH says the very worst of the storm is going to miss us out to sea but it's already been raining here for 2 days and that was a different storm. The hurricane rain apparently starts this morning. My schedule for the week had me going for a flu shot this morning but I guess not. To get there I have to go past several areas that flood in heavy rain.

Helene--I am sorry to hear about DH's heart attack. May people have one and don't realize they have had one. I do hope he improves quickly.
Maryanne--We are on day 3 of rain off and on with more expected tonight and tomorrow. Be sure to get that flu shot when the weather improves.
I'm tired from all the work this week but I realized I hadn't posted so I touched base tonight.0 -
It's still raining here. Paper says still chance of flooding and power outages. Oh, joy!0
-
47 degrees with cold rain here. Quaker Weight Control oatmeal for breakfast.
Maryanne--I hope you are not affected by flooding and power outages.0 -
I had bought some McDougal's instant steel cut oatmeal for DH before he got sick. He had one packet and said it was pretty bland. I had a packet and he was 100% right. I had another for breakfast today. I added a dash of SF maple syrup, some pecans and a few craisins. That made it palatable but I won't buy them again. The best I can say about it is I only have 1 packet to go. DH is doing much better. The biggest issue now is pneumonia. If they can clear that up, he'll feel so much better. The heart damage was much less than the cardiologist anticipated so we're very happy about that. Jean...He certainly fell into that group that didn't realize it was a heart attack. He thought it was connected to the respiratory illness he had all week. Lucky the doctors were smarter than us.0
-
Helene--Too many people think a heart attack is nothing more than their usual indigestion as they may not have the typical symptoms.
It just dawned on me that we need to start another quarter of posts.0 -
It would be OK with me if we just continue on with this thread indefinitely.
I've had a busy weekend. Friday started out nicely with a birthday lunch with two friends from grad school, and then I went directly from there to happy hour with friends from book club and the gym. Last night I attended a reunion of people that I worked with before retiring. Most of them I had not seen in nearly ten years, so it was fun to see them and catch up. Today I think I am going to a movie with a friend. Next week looks pretty slow, so I'll have time to catch up on the things I didn't get done this weekend.
Helene, I hope your DH continues to improve. Any word on when he will be able to go home?0 -
Random thoughts from doing errands:
1.Have you seen the new gas pumps with video screens? I guess we aren't bombarded with enough ads. I suspect, but do not know, that there's a security camera inside those screens.
2.CROM storage unit. Are we the only country on earth with storage units or do others have them? CROM's is pretty well organized, even has shelves. I hope I have lead time of knowing when CROM ends so I can make sure nothing of value is left in there.
3.Grocery store trip was pretty routine EXCEPT for what was going on in the parking lot. How many places have someone steaming crabs in their parking lot?
4.CROM's post office box store has a new neighbor. Indian food of some sort. I recognize not one thing pictured in the windows. My taste in food definitely does not run to the far East!
5.Bank ATM. I still puzzle over the Braille. Today I had the added puzzle of wondering why I could deposit neither check nor cash! I can see a machine being out of money to dispense but I was trying to GIVE it money!
Anyway, I'm home and hope my chores for the day make more sense.0 -
Jean - I don't even want to go back and look at my goal for the third quarter. Time to move forward!!!0
-
I agree it is time to move forward. Tomorrow morning, if I am not called to work, I will start a new quarter thread. We don't have to look back; we can look at where we are now and try to do our best.
I had the Lean Cuisine meat loaf and mashed potatoes for dinner.
Yesterday, I saw the movie "The Martian." The movie is excellent, and most reviews reflect that. I will say that it gives you a healthy appreciation for the benefits of potatoes which is a reference to a survival technique in the movie.

I don't know how I did either. I lost track. I know I'm down 13 pounds since we moved to this site but how much was this quarter, who knows. DH is still in the hospital but improving every day.0
-
Helene--Good news on DH's improvement and also on your weight loss. I have gained since June.
Off to start a new thread which I hope will be a new beginning.0 -
The new thread for the last quarter has been started.
