Peanut butter/Almond butter

The past couple days I have had a bad craving for peanut butter. Which is kinda odd because I never really ate it much before. Maybe I am just craving something slightly sweet. But I don't think that is it.

Does anyone recommend a low carb option for peanut or almond butter? I considered getting the walden farms brand but I'm kinda scared what it will taste like. Has anyone tried it?

Maybe it's just me, but I've always considered almond butter to be the lower-carb alternative to peanut butter. I eat it all the time. :)

Walden Farms tends to use sugar alcohols in my experience. I got their chocolate syrup and one teensy swipe gave me an instant migraine. And I don't get migraines. So me personally, I will never use their products because of that.

Aside from that, I've been told to look for anything with just peanuts and salt or almonds and salt for the purest form of these... And with Almond butter, I've been told you should look for the "naked" type that they remove the skins before blending...reduces chemical absorption or whatnot.

i have been eating them both as i dont think they are high carb unless you eat a ton, i get a no added sugar peanut butter one and it has about 8g net carb/ 100g.
the reviews i have read on the walden one are awful so i have never tried it.

I like almond butter on occasion, Justins brand has individual pouches that aren't too bad price wise and then you don't have a jar just begging to be consumed.

A nationally distributed brand Smuckers Natural has just peanuts & salt, no sugars or emulsifiers. I usully keep it in the fridge to slow down the separation.

I've never seen sugar in peanut butter in NZ, the idea sounds gross, but I'm not a fan of peanut butter to start with. Could you not just eat some peanuts by themself?

I eat almonds for a snack often. Thanks for all the options.

I personally prefer almond butter to peanut butter and most of the "natural" brands (at least in Canada) don't have added sugars etc, although the same can be said for natural peanut butters as well. Celery and almond butter, a great snack!

Here in Texas, HEB grocery stores with bulk health food sections have grinders where you can make your own PB or Almond Butter directly from the nuts. No salt, but you could add it afterwards I guess. Doesn't keep as long as the other kinds, but you know exactly what you're getting.

I pretty much eat peanut butter or almond butter whenever I want, I just work it in. Just look for the natural kinds that are just nuts and maybe salt.

Whatever you do, do NOT get anything Walden Farms. That stuff is nasty!

I like the Smuckers brand mentioned earlier and Crazy Richards, both list just peanuts as the only ingredient and have only 1g of sugar. I have about a tbs per day with celery as a snack most days. I bought some walnuts and am going to make homemade walnut butter with a food processor soon.

Macadamia nut butter is delicious but very expensive.
