I ran my first 10k of the year today. Not super fast, but perfect execution for my training. Even ran negative splits!4

Bling from tonight's 10k I was disappointed that there were no cool T-shirts, hats, or anything else (other than a reflective slap bracelet and a glow stick that broke and lit itself up yesterday when I picked up the packet), but I do really like the medal. This is race #3 of 4, and just like last year, my schedule had me miss one of the races. The medals fit together, so I won't have the complete design. Oh well, I'm thinking of getting a medal display rack anyway, and you can't tell they fit together if they're hanging.4 -
Ran my first 5k Sunday, it was awwwwesome! I still go pretty slow, but I ran the whole thing and improved my time. I'm signed up for a 5k on april 14th, might Sign up for a glow run 5k next weekend, and considering doing a 10k in May. I loooove running8 -
The Larmer Tree Marathon this weekend. My third attempt, with two prior DNSs. It should have been my first marathon two years ago, but I was ill and downgraded to the HM instead, with my first being three months later at Giants Head.
I'm familiar with the territory, having done the Half, but also the various Ox races in the area as well. The weather has been horrendous for a few days, so very muddy throughout the route. I opted for Trail Talons this weekend as there was enough road to make MudClaws a challenging choice.
A couple of friends were carrying injuries, so a fairly relaxed session as we've all got a lot in the calendar this season.
Good company, some challenging climbs and beautiful views.
Marathon #10 for me, and the first of 10 this season.

Coming off injury, I had no expectation of equaling my PR 8K from last year's Shamrock 8K/USATF Masters 8K. My intention was to run a bit harder than threshold. I thought I had a good chance to finish under 33 minutes, and not much chance of beating 32 minutes. Went out too fast, ran the first mile in 6:07, and held on to run the 8K in 31:55 gun time, 31:51 net time. USATF Masters is a tough field; this was 69th of 183 overall, and 14th of 26 in the M 60-64 age group.
Afterwards, someone I didn't recognized called my name. It turned out to be @ctlaws44, who ran the open section of the Shamrock 8K, one corral behind the Masters.

Quite late in posting this. Back in December I ran my first full marathon. I've always stuck with half marathons up to this point. I did the Brazos Bend 100 Marathon. My son, who is in the picture with me finished the 100 mile run. The picture is of us when we crossed paths. I was around mile 11 and he was at about mile 30 for his race. An awesome race. Love trail racing, even with the alligators on the trail! So for anyone who thinks running is for the young folks... I didn't even run my first race until I was 53. It isn't about speed to me. I finished right in the middle of the pack and had zero soreness, zero lack of energy, zero problems. Run your race folks, it's about finishing, and finishing stronger than last time.
I've done Brazos Bend before (half and a 25K, not their marathon). That's a great place to run and such a great organization! Congrats!1 -
For the 4th year in a row I ran the Seabrook Lucky Trails (Seabrook, Tx). In the past, I've done their double half-marathon challenge. This year, I decided to do the hardest challenge they offer: Run a marathon on Saturday and half-marathon on Sunday. Wow, that was hard. Especially since I under trained. The weather was also hot and humid both days.
One of the highlights was having them announce as I ran on Sunday that I was doing the Trail Challenge. It was cool to have them state it on the first loop as I circled through the start/finish area and then to have them announce my name and that I was completing it as I finished. Having friends there for support also helped tremendously. It was a tough one!

Ran Lucky Charm 10k yesterday. It was not my best effort but I haven't been training as hard in the first part of this year so it is to be expected. Still got 47:40 (chip time) which was good enough for 38th place (out of 403 runners).
I was a bit surprised to see only 397 ran the 5k. There were more in the 10k than 5k. Not what I expected...

WOW that's amazing...47:40 was my 5k time last sunday. Lol. so inspiring!2

Spring Forward 15K, 9.3 miles of rolling hills in Mendon, NY today. The objective was to practice pace control for Boston and get a long run in. Ran 8 miles before the race, and ran the 9.3 in 1:10:47, for an average pace of 7:37 per mile on certified race distance. If my control is that good for 20 miles on Patriot's Day, I should be in pretty good shape.
Because I was deliberately running slow, I was only 2nd in the M 60-64 age group. I elected to leave before the awards ceremony and not bother with the curved glass plaque. If I had won the age group, I would have hung around to collect my jar of Once Again nut butter.1 -
@dewd2 nice bling! I love how underwhelmed your cat seems to be at your achievement.1

Finished my half marathon this morning in 1:54:38. I started out racing the first couple miles and then I hit the hills from hell and decided this was going to be a training run. Then end result was my 2nd slowest HM ever (not disappointed, just an observation). It is also 3 minutes slower than last year's time when I got lost and ran an extra 1.5 miles.
I got a free hoodie sweatshirt for being the first one to register.
2 -
Congratulations on your half! You're 2nd slowest time would be a major PR for me ;]
I *love* that medal - classy looking!0 -
Got an ear warmer/headband from my Saturday race. Nothing too special, so I didn't take a picture of it.0
-
There are four 10k's in the season, leading up to the marathon in May, and just like last year I was out of town for one of them. So the picture on the back of the medals is incomplete - looks like a runner to me (missing half of his head and upper torso, of course). But it's a fun little collection.
My best time was at the first one in October, and my favorite was February's cold night race. All I will say about today was the weather was absolutely beautiful, and I've got a lot to be thankful for.

I ran a 5k today and was 4th over all, 2nd female and 2nd in my age group. And as a bonus I also won the 'runners box' in the raffle.
Not sure I'm brave enough to wear the extremely loud running pants which were in the box.
The medal is for being the second placed female. I have never, ever had a gender placing before so I'm currently on cloud nine and grinning like an idiot.8 -
Had a little race in SE MN this past weekend. We had some interesting weather, but it was a fun experience.
8 -
Temps in the high 30s and low 40s, headwinds of 11 to 25 mph, but neither of those would have been issues without the rain. The rain messed with my hydration and electrolyte strategy because I couldn't properly manipulate what I was carrying while leaving my soaked gloves on; and taking them off for my only port-a-pot stop convinced me I really didn't want to take them off a second time.
Other than that, the race went pretty much as planned: Control my pace to not be too fast to the top of Lower Newton Falls, run the drop at Lower Newton Falls to not hurt my quads, don't challenge the hills of Newton because that would make the last 6 miles a death march, then see what I have left. I think in good weather, I could have run a negative split after the way I ran the race through Heartbreak Hill. In the weather we had, I was able to hold on and keep running for the full distance other than that one port-a-pot break about 12.4 miles in.
Final time was 3:28:43, 30th of 1019 in the M 60-64 age group, 7578 of 25,746 overall, subject to future results adjustments by BAA. Tough conditions, but still 95.5% of the runners who made it to the start line finished the race.

MobyCarp - you ran a much smarter race than I did. Given the conditions, I decided to just run by feel, since I assumed the winds would slow me down whether I wanted to or not. I ended up flying for the first half, then slowing to my goal pace around mile 15, then struggling for miles 20-24, then coming back fairly strong. I don't know how much of my slow down was the wind and how much was my fast start. In the end, I ended up finishing right where I expected, at 4:05:08. There was a problem with my timing chip, so my official time is way off my actual time. (They said I started 27 minutes earlier than I did.) I was happy with what I ran, but really frustrated that that isn't reflected in my official results.0

@spiriteagle99 I see a link to request results adjustments; until I read your story, I didn't know what it should be used for. As far as I know, the mats captured my arrival accurately. It took me a bit over 4 minutes from the gun to cross the start mat. 27 minutes sounds like gun time from a wave earlier, and starting in a corral further forward than mine. At a minimum, your time should start no earlier than the gun time for the wave you were actually in.0

Started training for my first marathon ( Chicago Marathon) on Sunday... I ran the Star Wars Half marathon at Disney World. I thought it would be fun to start with a half and end with a full. I love Star Wars so it was a good time on the course!

It sounds like many runners had issues with the timing mats. Check out the Summary section at the end of this article: https://www.marathoninvestigation.com/2018/04/boston-marathon-timing-issues.html
And definitely use that link from MobyCarp to report your timing issue.0 -
13 days after Boston, I ran the USATF Masters 10K at the James Joyce Ramble, Dedham, MA. While my team was trying to win, my personal goal was to run as fast as would be conservatively consistent with marathon recovery and injury avoidance. If I'd been pushing for the fastest possible 10K, I might have been able to trim a minute off my time; but I perceived the risk of injury in running that hard as too high.
So I had an unremarkable time in the context of a USATF Masters field. 41:33 was 15th of 21 in the M 60-64 age group, 3rd scorer on the 4th place M 60+ team. I did manage to break 80% age grade, so I got a performance medal:

Here's my 5k bling from a little race I did today at a large commercial center/warehouse-style marketplace. It was kinda hot in the sun, but I managed about a 20 second PR, according to the official results.2 -
So last weekend was the Bad Cow Double, down in the Purbecks. A 12 hour endurance event on Saturday, followed by either a marathon or half on Sunday. There were about 20 of us that did at least a double marathon.
I drove down on Friday night, pitched my tent and caught up with friends.
Saturday was a 4.5mi lap; mixed forestry, coastal scrub and sand. I opted for 50K, given that I had the full the next day. It's a very laid back event, complete with bucket and spade left on the route for sandcastle building part of the way round. A friend did 61mi on the day, but she wasn't running the next day.
So a couple of beers in the evening helped ease the pain a little, then of again the following morning. Different route, with a two lap run. The HM runners starting 30 minutes behind the marathon. I was going quite slow, but the leading HM runners didn't catch up until about 9 miles in. The biggest challenge was my shoes waterlogged and muddy from about three miles in, wading through knee deep marsh. That meant I could feel blistering from about 6 miles.
As ever, it ran a bit long, finishing at about 45K
So, a hard couple of days, but really enjoyable.

@MeanderingMammal -Wow...nice job! That's quite an accomplishment! There's nothing we wouldn't do for a couple of really cool medals, right?0

Oh it's worse that that It's a race season, so at the end I get a black belt as well. We've got options on two doubles, either last weekend, or one in September. The September one is hillier.
So; two 12 hour endurance events covering at least marathon distance, four marathons.1 -
I managed to stay on target today - goal was 30 minutes or slower. Now on to the half marathon tomorrow.
