Well I was up to week 6 on the treadmill and decided to start over from day one outside. I wear my polar HRM while I run and my heart rate is often over 160 and my breathing is crap. I am 48 and at least 50 lbs over weight so I know thats a factor but I'm wondering what is your average HR while running?

It depends on what session I am doing. Everyone's HR is different, the weather, the humidity, food, caffeine all make a difference. You need to set your HR limits for you and then if you wish to do HR training then use those tests to set your training bands.
So for reference, easy runs for me are around 130-140, half marathons are done at around 150, 5km races are 165. I can get me HR up to 192 and when I get up it is 40-42. On the start line of the last HM it was 53. However you do need to find what is normal for you. Best of luck0 -
Just finished week 8. My heart rate seems to fluctuate between about 138 and 152 for all my runs this week.
When I am rowing in a race my heart rate will be around 170 for the 20 minute race0 -
For a bit of reference:
I started C25K 6 months ago, and had HBP. That's gone now, and I run 3 x 5k each week. I'm still at least 50# overweight.
My FitBit tells me that my resting heart rate is right around 60 bpm (drops to <50 occasionally at night), and my average heart rate during my 5k runs is in the high 150s. Maybe I need to be working a little harder . . .0 -
Thank you everyone! My resting heart rate is a bit high at about 70 so I guess I'm in line with you DaveAkeman as far as HR so I feel better. I was worried that 160 was way too high. When I run on the treadmill is closer to 150. I won't worry about it. Just keep trodding along.0
