Weight/Scale Fluctuations

Hey All,

I have been having trouble staying motivated as I keep jumping in weight. I was at 143.8 when I started. The next week this went up to 145 and change. Then it went down again to 143 and then up again this Monday morning to 146. something... I weighed myself again after work, after eating, and I was at 144.1... I can't see my weight fluctuating that much as that is a whole ton of extra calories to gain that weight in a week. I am assuming it is then my scale... Thoughts?

  • Best thing to do is weigh yourself right after waking up in the morning after you pee (naked if you can) before eating or drinking anything and always weigh yourself around the same time and with the scale in the same place and on the same scale.

The scale will jump around from time to time and different scales or even placing the scale in a different spot could give you a different number.

Maybe try weighing in daily for a week or two in the same spot at the same time every day and track your weight so you can see if there is a pattern?

I'm a twice daily weigh'er and track both morning and evening numbers as it keeps me on track.
Only do this if you're able to handle seeing the number go up as some days for no reason you can think of there might be a 3 pound jump from day before.

I've noticed my weight normally stays within 1/2 pound (up or down) for about 3 days then I drop a couple pounds then repeat.
And evening weight is from 2-5 pounds more than my morning weight depending on how many carbs I have ate during the day,
if I stay under my 5% carb goal I'll see a 2 pound gain at the end of the day if over on carbs my evening number can be up as much as 5 pounds.

If the daily tracking will make you lose motivation, you could try switching to weighing in just once a month and see how that works?
Also track inches and take a couple before shots so when the scale is being a dink you can go by the inches you're losing and compare a new photo to your starting one.
