When your meds take away you appetite...

Do you rejoice? Get angry? Get worried?

I've been on an increased dosage of Metformin now for about 5 weeks and still I'm having uncomfortable side effects and have very little appetite. I have MFP set to lose 1.5 pounds a week and honestly, I can barely ever eat to my calorie goal. I usually end up 300-500 calories under what MFP gives me.

I'm obviously overweight, but is this a problem? When I started taking a lower dosage of Metformin I had this for about 2 weeks. I see the endo in early September. If I'm still having side effects and little/no appetite, would that be a long enough clinical trial for the meds to bring it up? Anyone have experiences with this?

It's a common but not universal effect of metformin. If you have reduced your carb intake to help control your blood sugar, you like many others may find that it reduces the "feed me" pangs. The calculations in MFP are not delivered to us on stone tablets. Like it says on the window sticker "actual mileage may vary." If you are really concerned talk to your doc now. If you have an appointment next month and want to wait, talk with him then.

    Thanks Keith.

Yesterday I had to force myself to eat something before bed because I got the red MFP warning when I tried to close my diary.

Several months ago I got that stupid warning one too many times. I considered my options including lying to the computer and then thought "I'm not going to let some computer application tell me to clean my plate." I have not clicked the "Complete" button since and the sky hasn't fallen.
