Well I've been back for a bit and I'm finding it tough to get back to it. I gave myself until Monday to take it easy but Monday has come and gone and I didn't do any exercise. According to my scale, I put on 4.5 pounds during my 3 week + a few days vacation. It sounds like a lot but yeah, I really ate a lot of delicious food and drank some great craft beers, so I'm actually happy that it's not a lot more. I'm hoping a lot of it's water weight because when you eat out, you tend to eat a lot of saltier food.
So I'll get to it this week. Oh... my shoulder has not gotten any better with all the rest. The chiropractor visits didn't really help at all so I gotta figure out some other path. It actually was hurting more than usual a few days ago but it's better and kinda back to where it has been as of late.
A couple other things to note.... my Jawbone Up24 fitness band bit the dust over my vacay and they stopped making them so I got an Up2 as a replacement and I'm not a fan. The band clasp sucks and it just unhooks at least a couple times a day, including at night during sleep mode. It slides in sideways so it's pretty easy to knock back out. I also notice that it doesn't give me credit for the steps I would usually rack up doing certain things and the sleep tracking rarely notes that I had some deep sleep whereas my Up24 usually indicated about 1/2 light and 1/2 deep sleep.
Another thing that I had to replace was my iPhone. I accidentally got it wet during July 4th celebrations and it wasn't until I was in Vegas the first time on our trip that I got it replaced. I finally got it restored to the iPhone version I had before we left tonight so I haven't had access to all my fitness apps. I conveniently used this as an excuse not to exercise or track any food.
Dang... my post isn't much about WINS but it's a lot fessing up so there you have it. Happy August everyone.
Whoa.... I just realized that 6 months ago, we signed up for the Biggest Loser Bootcamp. At least I signed up a week early. The first actual day of bootcamp was February 9. That seems like a long time ago to me when I could barely do those A jumps. I'm glad to still have your companionship on this journey, one that I must get back on!0 -
Welcome back Scott! It sounds like you had an awesome few weeks (your Jawbone and iPhone notwithstanding) and didn't do too much damage - so that might be considered somewhat of a win. Also - they say the first step to solving any issue is to acknowledge the problem - so I will follow your excellent example and 'fess up' too.
My streak has ended and I'm up .4 this week. I had hoped it would go away and maybe Sunday was just a 'heavy' day, but alas - that dang .4 seems to have stuck. I have not had a great last couple of weeks where the diet is concerned though, so I can't be too shocked. I've eaten at least at maintenance several days - maybe half - of the last couple of weeks. I was pretty good last week, except for the weekend, and so far this week I've been doing well, so hopefully in a couple more weeks, my body will 'catch up' and I'll begin to lose again. I will NOT be derailed 11 lbs from my goal dangit!! We can DO this! So let's get back at it -renew our enthusiasm for a new and healthier us and don't let anything get in our way! Tonight - I'm going to try CrossFit for the first time! Going on an 'On Ramp' class at a local gym...
I hope you'll find a solution for your shoulder Scott. I hope it won't offend you if I offer to pray for healing for you? Have you gone to a regular medical doctor about it? Perhaps some prescribed physical therapy might help? It is rough to stick to a workout regimen when you're experiencing pain or worried that you might make things worse. Hopefully you can find a way to continue working around it until it can be resolved!
Yep - we've been at this for a while! I'm glad I met you guys too! I wish Rudy would come back and hope he's doing well wherever he is. I haven't seen any statuses or posts from Hysteria recently either, so hopefully she's still at it and training for her next 10k. It's probably good that we've all had a bit of a break over the last month or so. We've come a long way - and that alone is a WIN. They've got me doing box 'hops' now in CardioSculpt I can't really do them too well and usually just end up hopping in place, but I remember how hard I thought regular box jumps were during our BL days!
Debbie - are you back to work yet? I know you said it would be time to go back soon... I hope your week is going well.0 -
Yea school starts Thursday. It is strange we are going back on a Thursday, I guess we needed more minutes. The hardest part is getting up early and having to go to bed early. I love going to bed at 11 or 11:30 and getting up around 7. oh well back to a schedule lol0

That's so awesome that you're 11 lbs from your goal Kristine! How was that CrossFit? I welcome your prayers for my shoulder. I haven't gone to a regular doctor about it yet but I think I'll have to start thinking about that course of action. The other day, the thought of a pinched nerve popped into my head but I haven't done any research on what that is like yet.
Box hops? I don't know what that is but I was thinking of starting up the CardioSculpt program again. OH! At the gym of the hotel we stayed at in Vegas during my vacation, they had the boxes there. I've never done a box jump where you jump on top of a box like some of the contestants have to do on the BL. I was wondering if I would be hesitant and not want to jump like the contestants usually do. But nope, I hoped up there with no delay! First time, I tried the lowest height, and then I did the highest height. I was whooping it up on the inside, but had that, "Oh yeah... that's what I do" on my outside!
Debbie, my kids go back to school a week from Wednesday. I'll be like the parents in that Staples (or whatever place) ad where the parents are gleeing playing on shopping carts with the song "It's the most wonderful time of year" playing! Hopefully you'll have a great school year.0 -
That's so cool that you got to try the boxes and totally owned them! I think - depending on the height - I would probably hesitate. My vertical jump in February was about .5"! (Look closely - that's point 5) It's only improved over the last six months to about 4" - lol! I do something similar while holding a medicine ball (4 lbs) in Keaira's 'Lower Body Hydraulics' CardioSculpt workout - but it's only jumping onto an aerobic step with one set of risers - and I feel like I just make it. Although, that move is at the end of a pretty hard workout... I totally pictured you whipping it up on the inside while playing it too cool for school on the outside! That made me chuckle ☺
Box hops, btw, are the same as box jumps only you do it hopping on one foot. And Crossfit is good so far. I'm theonly one in the 'on ramp' class, so it's like having a personal trainer. First lesson was air squats, ring rows, and push-ups. Second was 2 different kinds of dead lifts and 3 kinds of overhead lifts using a barbell. Tonight is my 3rd lesson - which I have to go get changed for right now! I'll post more later on CF if you guys are interested.0 -
Well you can proudly say you've increased your vertical by 800%!!!
Actually jumping on top of a box isn't that bad as I've never been known for my vertical. You squat down a bit, swing your arms back and then thrust them down and then up to get some momentum and then you jump... but you can keep your knees sorta bent so you aren't really jumping 2 feet in the air. Just your feet are getting that high... but hey, that's what I do! I'm sure you could do it too!
CF sounds like a nice new thing to go do... sometimes a change up in the workouts is what the body needs! I would love to hear more about it.0
