I finally created the new WINS thread on a Sunday :) Aren't you guys proud of me! Hey Scott - I'm ready for you to take back over whenever - lol! It's a new week so let's brag about our successes... Or commiserate over our less successful moments and figure out how to do better next time! ;)

I think you do a much better job creating these new threads than I ever did Kristine! You're very entertaining so maybe I can aspire to your level going forward. I'll start doing it next week, ok? Oh and I'm very proud that you created this thread on a Sunday!!! B)

So yeah... successes? Uh.... well not really. Last week was a tough, get back to really working week so yeah, I didn't really work out. I did take the dog for a walk one evening. My youngest has taken over that duty as of late since he is focusing on getting more exercise and for whatever reason, he doesn't want me to come along! What a punk!!! :s At least, I "got" to walk her once. I know, I don't need a dog to go for a walk.

I learned that on Saturday, there was a green chile roast event in the Bay Area, which is a new thing because in the past, stores would carry the green chile but wouldn't have any roasters so one would have to roast them at home. Oh.... before I get too carried away, green chiles are a huge staple in New Mexico and one that I do not usually get living where I do. So this is a big deal for those that grew up eating green chile dishes but not living in New Mexico anymore.

Anyways, I invited myself over to my friend's house in Brentwood and we went and got 40 pounds of the hotter (it's still pretty dang mild) chiles roasted and then we went back to his place and bagged them into quart Ziplocks to store in the freezer. We cut up a few freshly roasted ones and had tasty snacks and the next morning, he made a killer smothered green chile breakfast burrito that was out of this world. And of course, we had to imbibe a bit on Saturday evening. And since I was passing an In N' Out, I just had to get a double cheeseburger, well done fries, and a Neapolitan shake. It's a good thing that I don't live near one of these places anymore!

So what I'm trying to say is that yeah, I once again did not lose any. According to the scale, I'm actually up 3.5 for the week! Hopefully the scale is bit whacky but boy, that's not good at all! I did manage to play some basketball yesterday evening once I got back home but it wasn't nearly enough exercise.

I'm finding it really hard to get back in the groove. Before I left, I would need to have that workout to feel satisfied and now, it's so easy just to blow it off and say "well, work is a killer so I'll do it later".

Ok that's enough pity for me. I'm off to make this a much more active week!

We could take turns creating them if you'd like ;) I don't mind really - it's just that I'm just scatter-brained enough to not always remember to create it on Sunday! Lol!

Green chilies eh? I guess it's a good thing I grew in Western PA, because I am not a fan of 'hot stuff'. Some BBQ chips are even too spicy for me - hahaha! They smell pretty awesome though - but for me it just doesn't translate to the taste. It sounds like you're all stocked up for a bit now. Is there something about the 'roasters'? It doesn't seem like green chilies would be particularly 'bad for you' when it comes to a diet. Unless the 'roasters' are stuffed with cheese or something?

I feel you on the In N' Out! I've never been to one of those - I don't think there are any around here - but my weakness is the Chick-fil-A! And we do have one of those in my local mall.... Where I went yesterday with my daughter... Ah the delicious fried goodness of their breaded chicken filet sandwich and waffle fries with calorie-laden 'Chic-fil-A sauce'!! I was strong though. My daugter - who is roughly the same height as me, but currently about 10 lbs lighter than me while looking (and being able to eat) like she's 25 lbs lighter than me thanks to the wondrous benefits of youth - got the Chik-fil-A nuggets with extra Chic-fil-A sauce and waffle fries and fully-leaded Coke. I got the grilled chicken salad and water. :\ It was a good salad - but not as good as the deep fried stuff - lol! I satisfied my craving by having one of her nuggets and one waffle fry - both with a dip in the sauce of course. It was hard though! I am just soooooo close to goal that I just wanna be there already, so that helps.

I wish you had a Fitbit Scott - I would send you some daily challenges that might get you out walking with or without the puppy ;) It is rough getting back into that routine and schedule though, so don't be too hard on yourself! I had a Weight Watchers leader once who used to tell us all the time not to beat yourself up too much over a bad week or couple of days - just to learn from it and move on. Her phrase was 'It's not what you've done, but what you do next that matters'. You'll get back into it when you're ready and I'll bet it'll be sooner rather than later. For me, it's the extra calories that motivate me to work out. If I don't work out, MFP only gives me 1200 cals a day and I starve at that low an amount. So if I want to eat - and I usually do! - I have to get those workouts in or face all the ugly red in my food diary from going over cals.

So this week was a good one for me - I am down 3 lbs overall! But. I gained .4 last week, so it's a 2.6 net loss towards my goal. That's still pretty darn awesome for me for a week. I'm a little worried about next week's weigh in with that big of a loss this week, but I'll keep the positive thoughts going. I have 8 lbs to go to goal now so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Woohoo! You're kicking some major butt there Kristine! WTG! 8 lbs to go huh? Pffft you so got that!!!

So chile roasters are the things to roast chiles in. Here's the one that roasted my chiles.
    0mz26tfk69yn.png

It's a pretty good size unit but not as large as the ones I grew up with in New Mexico. You can't see it in the photo but in the back, there are 5 burners where the flames from the propane tank come out and blaze those delicious chiles in the wire barrel. When it's all done, there's a door that opens and the chiles slide down that metal ramp into a plastic bag lined box.

Actually, one can make some healthy meals with green chile and it's a spicy food so it will help speed up the metabolism but the best green chile food has lots of gooey cheese associated with it! Mmmmmmmmm

Oh I'm very familiar with Chick-fil-A! I used to live in Texas and those are big there. Youth is wasted on the young, isn't it? Oh man, I ate a lot of waffle fries back when I could get away with it.

Don't worry... I'm not going to beat myself up more than I already have. I'm going to ease into it rather than go full bore. By next week, I'll be ramped up and good again, especially after school starts back up. It will be nice to have that routine again... yes the routine of having no kids in the house during the day! :p Maybe by then, I'll get back to logging my food again. That really seems to help me stay on track.

Fitbit challenges would be cool! I have joined challenges on MapMyFitness or whatever that app is. I like having the challenges but I prefer using the RunKeeper app for tracking runs, walks, and hikes. Actually, MapMyFitness has a DogWalk version so I use that when I walk the dog but I like RunKeeper for runs and biking. I stopped tracking hikes because it drains my phone pretty quickly since I'm usually out in the boonies with no cell service. That forces my phone to work harder to try to obtain a proper signal and that's what sucks my battery dry.

Your plan sounds like a solid one Scott. You definitely want to go the route most likely to result in long term success! I eased back into it after vacation too and I think that was good because after my first workout being back - I was sore! Lol! Logging food definitely helps too - I've actually gotten pretty picky about accurate logging as I get closer to my goal because I think it'll just get harder to lose the lower I go. I've even been weighing most my food instead of using measuring cups/spoons because it's much more accurate. That's just the IT analyst in me coming out though ;)

I'm in a FitBit Workweek challenge right now and man! I am doing my darndest to podium for it, but there is this one woman who must have nothing but time for walking- Lol! I have done 15k+ steps every day this week, which is great for me since I usually just get my 10k and call it a day, but yesterday this woman posted 25k+ steps in one day! I just can't keep up with that and keep my job. Oh well - hopefully I'll come in near the top of the list and will have gotten lots of nice extra steps that I wouldn't have ordinarily.

So here's a bit of a NSV / WIN! for the week. I need one because it's looking like the scale isn't my friend so far this week. I've been pretty good on calorie control and have worked out a bunch, but so far this week I'm 1lb up from last week :( Maybe it'll go away by Sunday - we'll see! Anyhoo - I did twelve real pushups on Tuesday at my CrossFit class! :smiley:B) I asked the trainer to watch my form to see if I was doing them well enough for them to 'count' in his opinion, and he said they were actually pretty good! So that made me happy since I couldn't even come close to doing one when we all started BLBC. Remember Jesse - "Anyone can do a pushup!"?? Lol!

Crossfit class yesterday consisted of learning five new (to me) exercises. I did two new types of overhead lifts - but not with any weight yet, unfortunately, since I'm still just learning form. One was a barbell overhead squat which is one of the lifts I was really hoping to learn. Then I learned two exercises that use the pullup bar - a kip (it's a gymnastics move used in bar routines) and a 'knees to elbows' which is basically just hanging from the bar and repeatedly pulling your knees up into your chest (or as close as you can get!). Those were rougher on my hands than anything, I think, because of the metal bars and my soft hands! And then I did something we've probably all seen on Biggest Loser - wall squats! Where you face the wall, hold a medicine ball in front of you over your head, squat, and then toss the ball when you stand as high on the wall as possible and catch. He had me do as many rounds of 7 'elbows to knees', 9 wall squats, and 11 pushups as I could do in 8 minutes. I did four full rounds and started on the 5th - and let me tell you - my arms were jelly by the time I was done! I'm liking it a lot so far - but I'm not sure if I'll continue on or not after the 'on ramp' classes are done because it's pretty expensive - $125/mo - to belong to the gym...

Hope everyone else's week is going great! Debbie - how's school going?

Well school started today and went well, nice to see their faces and get hugs because they missed me.
Scott that roaster looked interesting, I usually put roasted peppers in my sandwiches. I have a really good friend from Brentwood she teaches here now but grew up there, a farming family. I understand the challenges with fitbit, there is someone in our that I think cheats, I have been known to be marching in place at 9 at night. In fact we did a goal day yesterday, I got in 11,000 steps and won I was really surprised.

Congrats on doing that many "real" pushups Kristine! I haven't done pushups in a long time so I bet you can do more than I can! Cross-fit sounds like a great change up... too bad it costs that much for your gym. Ouch! I have seen getting some kind of pull up bar is great for the home gym but I don't feel safe putting it in my door jam or however it's supposed to go.

WTG for winning that FitBit challenge Debbie! BTW, the chile roasters in New Mexico are so big that they can hold a bushel and there's usually a guy with a backpack flame thrower (the kind people use to burn weeds) that will use it to roast the chiles while another turns the barrel. It's pretty cool to see that version!
