It has the same effect on men in my experience.

What makes this a complex issue I think if because at one point we could eat and burn carbs like crazy and lose weight with just CICO at will.

Things seemed to really change for me when I hit 40. It seemed like my body was more into storing carbs than burning them. Guys can start getting the spare tire look. Most every aspect of getting fat is depressing.

I'll second the comment about depression and men. It was one of the factors that lead me to try a low-carb/keto woe and I am believe it has really made a difference.

I find this interesting. For generations Iceland had the lowest rate of depression/suicide for Nordic peoples. Then in the past 10-20 years, the depression/suicide rate has increased dramatically. The thinking is due to the increased dietary intake of sugars and refine carbs,

I read a study that was about the effects of sugar and how it causes a dopamine response in either large or consistent quantities. And if I understood it correctly, it effected the dopamine system in the brain and basically messed it up. I know, I have a way with technical terms...

Correlation does not imply causation, but hasn't there been evidence of causality in other studies?
