Skin, hair and nails

Hi folks,
One of the benefits of LCHF I've read about is that it gives you nicer skin, hair and/or nails. This is not something I'm experiencing, as far as I can tell. I suspect hormones are always involved, and I'm still nursing a baby, so there's that. I seemed to be bruising more easily than usual for a while, but that seems to be over. No breakouts, but no noticeable skin improvement, either. I've always had sensitive skin, the kind that freckles, burns and gets upset easily.
Have you noticed an improvement in your hair, skin or nails? If so, when and how?
Thanks!

My hair is healthier if health is defined by oiliness. My nails are stronger. My skin is better most of the time--more glowing, I'd say, but also more oily... and occasionally I am breaking out (like now), although I suspect this may be due to my move into a higher carb level recently.0

My nails are stronger now after taking vitamin D and other supplements for the past year.0

My nails have always been strong. My hair and skin to feel oily but that could be from the summer weather, which usually happens. I no longer break out since using skin care products instead of soap and water. I have been losing a lot more hair though which could be from losing weight. So nope no big changes for me either.0

I'm still new but I really hope this is true!0

I haven't really noticed yet but I know in the past when I've strayed off LCHF, I can actually feel a dip in my nails where they thin out due to the diet change.
I have heard that gelatin is good for nails in particular so that might be worth looking into. Here's an idea for sneaking it into your coffee annchilders.blogspot.ca/2015/08/time-to-reveal-life-balance-coffee.html0 -
I had cystic acne for years that didn't even clear up after a 3 month antibiotic treatment. I noticed about a month into keto that all of the lumps that were constantly present below the surface of my skin were gone. ALL OF THEM! I couldn't believe it. I didn't expect that to happen and I was amazed.
I have still had a little pimple here or there on occasion but I think that has more to do with sweating than anything else.
My nails are not healthy but they never have been. I have been a nail biter since I was a child but, I have found that if I keep my nails painted with a thick layer of gel polish that I can keep from biting them. However, I tend to slowly peel the polish off my nails which takes layers with it. But even with all that, I do think they seem less thin now. I am really trying to keep from tearing them up like I do. And hopefully I can change my bad habits.
My hair seems healthier too but I have been using coconut oil on the ends for a while too. So it could be due to that.0 -
I have been in nutritional ketosis most of the time for 10 months now. I know my nails are stronger and I think my skin has improved. Not sure what it means but I have been told I am looking younger a few times but not sure what that meant.
I got serious about Vit D3 and K2 over the past year and am awaiting my levels report.
In my case my body has been doing a lot of healing since I have been LCHF. Any improvement in one area may indicate improvements that we can not yet see or feel are underway as well.0 -
My hair was falling out in ridiculous drain clogging amounts prior to LCHF. It's still falling out, but I do think it's less. I only have to clean out the drain every other day instead of every shower, but not sure if it's diet or increased biotin. It wasn't my thyroid as everything checked out normal the last three times I was tested. I figured it was genetics and hormones as my mother had the same issue. I also tried the no-poo thing for 3 months to see if it had any effect, and nope. Hair has always gotten super oily and not washing it for 3 months only made it worse. Now I just use sulfate free shampoo every other day.
Skin wise I rarely, if ever, break out. I use coconut oil as a moisturizer daily and three years ago I switched to an olive oil based soap. I tend to credit those things for my skins health.
I have always had beautiful strong nails that grow moderately fast. Every manicurist I've ever been too has commented on them. It's the only part of my body that I actually feel happy with. I don't really think the diet has done much to make them grow faster or stronger, so if or when that benefit kicks in, hey bonus!

Re: cystic acne. Same here. But they came back a couple weeks ago, and I'm not sure whether that's due to the intense Texas heat or my recent increase in carbs (from 20 to 35ish).0 -
I have PCOS so any improvement in skin and hair will be greatly appreciated!!! The struggle is real here.0

Mine have all improved greatly. My skin feels so smooth and soft and my hair is getting thicker and nails stronger.0

I'm almost six months in to this woe. My skin has improved, a lot. I also have had cystic acne that seems to be under better control than ever. My nails are growing faster than they ever have. My hair seems to be growing faster, since the need for color has been coming around so much quicker. It has taken a while, but the benefits are too great to give up!0

5 weeks in and within days my adult acne started to clear up and I didnt break out at my TOM this past cycle. My teeth are friggin AMAZING, and I just use crest 3d white toothpaste so it has to be my change in diet. No difference in my hair or nails. I did get the keto rash though, it started at the base of my spine and has climbed all the way up past my bra line. so. friggin. itchy. It's been about 3 weeks now, and I was hoping it would go away on its own but I'm going to have to go see my Dr for a prescription I think. She is NOT going to approve, her office has several articles taped to the wall about the benefits of grains/high carb to lose weight. Nothing else up on the walls except a calendar.0
