That's awesome. How long did it take?0

That is also a good range to be in. Great job.0

Way to go, Jaime!
I just bought that exact same glucometer/ketone meter, I think. I haven't gotten around to figuring out how to use it yet. You might have just inspired me to figure it out.0 -
Actually I found that meter just needs blood. It will set itself up based on the info from the strip you stick in it. I do glucose first since it computes the fastest with the least amount of blood. It is a very good meter. Ketone strips were $1.50 each off ebay but they give accurate readings. That I do every 1-3 months. I us a $15 ebay alcohol breath analyzer to know if I am in or out of ketoses is I want that info. I did check it every day for a month however.0

I didn't realize you could use an alcohol breath analyzer to determine Ketosis. Very cool!0

I've been extremely strict on my plan for 10 days. Yesterday it read .6 and I was so disappointed. Then today on a whim I checked again and SURPRISE!0

These analyzers all read different (I have three that look identical) but each one is consistent. I mainly use the one that gives me a mid readout. If it reads .025 I know I am at least in a low level of ketosis. A .050 it will beep with a warning to not drive and normally I will have a 1.0+ reading on the ketone strip test. A .070+ means a 2.0+ reading when I do the actual ketone blood level test.
NOTE: expensive ones will not work but the cheap ones will read the acetone of the breath. There is a company that sells one with this same type detection system with colored lights for about $100 on the web. Again measuring acetone will not give you real info like your blood ketone/glucose meter does but there is NO prick involved. I found MFP by Google because there was some info in a post about these $15 meters to test for ketosis.
This info helped me learn I was getting lower readings after I drank a lot of coffee using 30+ cups of the mini half and half creamers at a restaurant. Found out I was getting like 15 grams of carbs so now I take a quart of heavy whipping cream (36% butter fat) and leave it there and they bring it out with my coffee. Saves me needless carbs and saves them $$$. The funny part when using the HWC I can not drink as much coffee because the extra fat is so filling. Carbs just keep calling for more carbs in my screwed up body.

Congrats! How have you been feeling so far?0
-
I feel fantastic actually. I know a lot of people talk about "Keto Flu" but so far the worst I've had are a few moments of tiredness. I've continued to run while becoming adapted so I account the tiredness to hard workouts mostly.0

Ketosis readings vary though the day - usually highest when in a fasting state ie before you eat first in the day. 0.6 is I think still in ketosis, as my understanding was that >0.5 mmol did represent ketosis.0

I've still very new to this whole thing so I'm still learning. The numbers thing can be a bit confusing (at least to me). I took the above picture around 4:30pm so I guess it's a good thing if it was still that high so late in the day. Right??0
-
I would agree - depending on when you ate!
My own learning point over the last 6 months, mainly from other members, is that the key thing is not to get stressed about numbers! So long as you are losing weight (if that's your aim), then does it matter exactly what your numbers are?
But it is encouraging to see the numbers, especially when starting off, so I'm not in any way criticising or saying you shouldn't track. I hope you achieve everything you want to - good luck!0 -
Thank you. Yes it is encouraging to see both the numbers and the scale going down. I think the numbers just help me know that it isn't just water weight that I'm dropping and that I'm actually following my plan correctly.0

The ketones levels in my case is just a simple way to indirectly track my carb intake.
The main reason I try to stay in nutritional ketosis is cancer prevention which is what lead me to the LCHF eating lifestyle.
Chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) in my case is a driving reason to know I am in ketosis. The scales will tell me if I am losing weight but not if I am adding to my longevity which is driven by the total health of my body at the cellular level in my view.
CMA does NOT stand for Country Music Awards by the way but Chaperone-Mediated Autophagy.
The below is a good article that I think makes living in a state of nutritional ketosis to help reverse some of the long term effects of carb abuse in my case job one for me. Weight loss and pain loss are just positive side effects in my view.
cavemandoctor.com/2012/04/06/autophagy-turning-stress-into-health/
The below has enough terms to Google that you can read for a long time on the subject of CMA at any level you wish.

The below may be of interest to interesting in longevity at a cellular level and how that relates to cancer prevention perhaps.
