There must be some really uninformed people out there if they say you have to go low carb to burn fat.

I do low carb to manage my arthritis pain and to help reduce my risks of heart attack, cancer, stroke, Alzheimer's, Parkinson, Type 2 diabetes and other age related health issues based on current research out there. Some of my issues are related to years of carb abuse so going low carb just makes sense to me. Yes I lose some weight eating low carb as long as I keep my daily carbs <50 grams and do not eat over 2600 other types of calories daily.

A lot of people do go lc to loose fat. Myself included. What I don't understand is if my body was burning fat on weight watchers when I lost 40 pounds. ...why would I be feeling keto flu effects when going lc? Wouldn't my body already be adapted to burn fat? At any rate if this is true I as always went about weight loss a harder way since the study suggests the lc fat rates were better because lc is easier to maintain.

I took a brief look at the study.

IMHO Rigorous study - Not. - 19 people 2 weeks on then "rest" then 2 weeks switch.
The first 5 days subjects were put on a eucaloric diet - 50% carbs, 35%, 15%..
Also, 140g is LC? Calling it "reduced carb". I didn't feel fully fat adapted until 7 weeks at <20g.
I'd be more impressed with 6 months to a year, with non-modelling projections.

I don't know the scientific answer, but my gut reaction is that just because you were BURNING fat did not mean you were USING that fat for fuel, which is what happens with ketosis...

    Oh thanks that makes sense.

One can loss weight living on carbs. Most can not get and stay in nutritional ketosis eating > 50 grams of carbs daily. Low carb triggers other actions by the body beyond just CICO from what I have read.

Eww. It's resurfaced. Complete junk study, too small and too short.

Regardless of studies, the NFL and other endurance athletes train to be fat adapted.

It does work well if you are a hard core exercising person.

So with a study for moderate carb diets and 90-120 minutes weekly of intense cardio..... That is useless to me

I do that in a day.

In my opinion LC is better suited to preserving my extra muscle mass and also high intensity exercise like riding 30-40 miles at a fast pace for a few days a week then lifting weights.

It is really about what serves your lifestyle best.

I'm happy for anyone that gets in shape regardless of the diet type. Granola types and carb hounds, I'm happy for them if it works.

LC works for me. I'm a carnivore. I like intense exercise. I like the anti inflammatory nature of LC. I love the effect on my blood pressure and testosterone level.

It is a solid way to live and enjoy life.

That is really all there is to it

Your mileage may vary. Closed course with professional drivers. Do not try this at home.

s it has been about a month since I went low carb e.g. from 40 to 60 carbs per day and and about 1400 max. Calories. I have lost maybe 3-4 lbs--but it does vary from day to day. Trying to get more exercise in too. is this fairly typical? The weight loss is much slower than the last time I did this regime about 2-3 years ago.

Thanks for the link. It helped me wrap my head around it being new to lc.

I do know that after my weight loss on weight watchers I had blood work done. My doctor was all excited about my loss , but my tests came back with high fat levels..very good cholesterol but high fat. I asked the doc how that was because fat was what I had been limiting for so long. She could not explain it to me.

Like I said this is sort of helping me wrap my head around it.
